Job Overview
MetaMinds Learning Center is seeking a passionate, energetic, and dedicated Lead Tutor to join our growing learning community. The Lead Tutor will work directly with students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, providing engaging, personalized instruction while supporting our after-school program.
This is a hands-on teaching and leadership role for someone who enjoys working with children, creating engaging lessons, and helping students build confidence and strong academic foundations.
Position Details
- Position: Lead Tutor / After-School Program Educator
- Grades: Kindergarten to Grade 8
- Hours: Approximately 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Subjects: Math, English, Science, and French
- French instruction: Additional compensation available for tutors who can teach French
- Location: MetaMinds Learning Center, Scarborough
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging tutoring sessions for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.
- Teach Math, English, and Science according to students’ grade levels and individual learning needs.
- Teach French where qualified; French teaching will receive additional compensation.
- Prepare and organize daily and weekly lesson plans before teaching sessions.
- Develop differentiated activities and instructional strategies for students with different abilities, learning styles, and academic needs.
- Support students with homework, assignments, test preparation, skill development, and curriculum reinforcement.
- Lead and supervise the after-school program, including homework support, enrichment activities, transitions, and student engagement.
- Create a positive, structured, and welcoming learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Identify areas where students require additional support and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records of lessons, student progress, and areas for improvement.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding student learning and progress.
- Collaborate with other MetaMinds tutors and share effective teaching strategies.
- Support and mentor newer tutors when required.
- Prepare learning materials, worksheets, activities, and educational resources.
- Encourage students to develop independence, confidence, problem-solving skills, and a love for learning.
- Ensure students are supervised and supported throughout the after-school program.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience working with children in a school, tutoring center, daycare, or educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade 8.
- Strong teaching ability in Math, English, and Science.
- French teaching ability is an asset and will qualify for additional compensation.
- Ability to confidently teach students across multiple grade levels.
- Strong lesson-planning and classroom-management skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students with varying academic abilities and learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working independently while also being part of a teaching team.
- Strong organizational skills and reliability.
- Comfortable using computers and educational technology.
- Passionate about helping children learn, grow, and succeed.
- A positive, patient, energetic, and encouraging approach to working with students.
Pay: $19.00-$25.00 per hour
