The Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Senior Business Development Consultant for approximately 24 months.
The Senior Business Development Consultant is a member of the Executive & Professional Development (EPD) team within the Haskayne School of Business (HSB). The position reports to the Director, Executive & Professional Development and collaborates closely with faculty, program directors, marketing and communications professionals, alumni, industry partners, corporate clients, and other university stakeholders to advance HSB strategic priorities and objectives.
Executive & Professional Development delivers leadership, and organizational development programs for individuals and organizations. Through open-enrolment programs, customized corporate learning solutions, and executive education offerings, EPD strengthens leadership capacity across industries while generating revenue, building strategic partnerships, and enhancing the reputation of the Haskayne School of Business.
This position is responsible for identifying, developing, and maintaining strong relationships with corporate organizations, industry associations, alumni, senior leaders, and executives to drive enrolment growth, generate business opportunities, and expand organizational partnerships. The role requires significant independent judgment and discretionary decision-making in assessing market opportunities, prioritizing sales and partnership activities, developing business strategies, and managing a complex portfolio of stakeholders. Errors in judgment may negatively impact revenue generation, client relationships, enrolment outcomes, and the reputation of the Haskayne School of Business.
Due to the operational requirements of this position, the role is predominantly based on campus and in the community. The primary working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week); however, flexibility is essential, including some early morning, evening and weekend work. Regular travel throughout Calgary and Alberta may be required. This position is part of the Management and Professional Staff (MaPS) employee group.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Business Development and Revenue Generation

Identifies, develops, and secures new business opportunities that support enrolment growth and revenue objectives.

Develops and executes business development plans aligned with EPD strategic priorities and annual targets.

Leads consultative sales conversations with prospective clients, corporate partners, and executive learners to identify needs and recommend appropriate learning solutions.

Develops proposals, presentations, and business cases in collaboration with faculty and internal stakeholders.

Manages the full sales cycle, including prospecting, relationship development, proposal development, negotiation, closing, and account expansion.

Maintains a strong pipeline of prospective opportunities and actively pursues new business relationships.
Strategic Relationship Management

Establishes and maintains productive relationships with corporate organizations, industry associations, alumni, community partners, and government stakeholders.

Represents EPD and HSB at networking events, conferences, industry meetings, and community engagements.

Develops and implements account management strategies that support long-term client retention and growth.

Serves as a trusted advisor to clients by understanding organizational priorities and aligning learning solutions with business needs.
Team Leadership and Collaboration

Leads cross-functional teams, mentoring faculty and staff to achieve goals and execute on projects.

Provides day-to-day leadership for the Business Development Lead position, as well as other positions that may be required to successfully achieve client outcomes.

Delegate tasks to business development, marketing & operations team members providing guidance and feedback.
Market Intelligence and Strategic Planning

Monitors industry trends, competitive activity, workforce development needs, and emerging market opportunities.

Conducts market research and environmental scanning to identify opportunities for portfolio growth and market expansion.

Provides recommendations to leadership regarding program development, partnership opportunities, and business development strategies.

Contributes to annual planning activities and supports the achievement of strategic objectives.
Reporting, Data Analysis and Process Improvement

Leads the effective utilization, governance, and continuous improvement of CRM systems, ensuring data integrity, accurate reporting, and the adoption of best practices across business development activities.

Tracks business development activities, pipeline performance, enrolment trends, and partnership outcomes.

Prepares reports, presentations, and performance updates for leadership.

Develops program budgets which often exceed $100,000 and totalling $1.5M+ annually

Identifies opportunities to improve business development processes, client experience, and operational effectiveness.

Supports evidence-based decision-making through analysis of business development and market data.
Qualifications / Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in business, commerce, marketing, adult learning, communications, or a related discipline is required. Master's degree is considered an asset.

Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in business development, consultative sales, account management, partnership development, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience developing and executing business development strategies in professional services, executive education, post-secondary education, consulting, or a comparable B2B environment.

Demonstrated success building and maintaining strategic relationships with senior leaders, executives, and key stakeholders.

Demonstrated success driving revenue growth by leveraging established relationships with business community, preferably within the Alberta marketplace.

Experience managing complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders and long-term relationship development.

Experience utilizing CRM systems, reporting tools, and data analytics.

Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes.

Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
