The Opportunity
401 Electric is seeking an experienced commercial/industrial electrical professional who can bring strong field knowledge into the estimating process and, when required, help lead projects in the field.
The primary focus of this role is commercial/industrial electrical estimating. You will review drawings and specifications, complete detailed takeoffs, build labour and material pricing, obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, prepare competitive proposals, and support project setup and turnover. Depending on project workload and business needs, you may also act as a Working Project Foreman on selected projects.
What You'll Do
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for commercial and industrial electrical projects, including tendered, negotiated, design-build, renovation, service, maintenance, and new-construction work.
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, schedules, and contract requirements; identify scope gaps, assumptions, exclusions, risks, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Complete detailed electrical takeoffs and develop labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and customer meetings to understand existing conditions and project requirements.
- Work with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain complete and competitive pricing.
- Support awarded-project setup and turnover, including labour budgets, material assumptions, procurement needs, scheduling, and project strategy.
- Work with Operations, Purchasing, and the Director of Finance on project setup, cost tracking, monthly project reviews, forecasting, and profitability.
- When assigned in the field, perform electrical work while leading electricians and apprentices, coordinating manpower, materials, schedule, safety, quality, and other trades.
- Monitor labour performance, identify scope changes and cost impacts early, and support change-order pricing and documentation.
- Use estimating software, digital tools, and appropriate AI-enabled technologies to improve accuracy, planning, documentation, and efficiency.
- Maintain professional communication with customers, general contractors, consultants, inspectors, suppliers, and internal teams.
What We're Looking For
- Valid 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician Certificate of Qualification, or equivalent qualifications and relevant electrical construction experience.
- Strong commercial/industrial electrical construction background; 5+ years of progressive experience preferred.
- Experience as a Foreman, Lead Hand, Estimator, Project Coordinator, or similar electrical construction role.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams, schedules, and tender documents.
- Experience with electrical takeoffs, estimates, quotations, or project pricing.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, ESA requirements, construction safety requirements, and accepted trade practices.
- Strong understanding of labour productivity, material requirements, sequencing, constructability, and project cost control.
- Strong organization, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort with Microsoft Office, PDF/document-management tools, estimating software, and new technologies. Accubid/BidWinner experience is an asset.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to customer and project sites, including occasional travel outside the immediate local area as project opportunities expand.

You think ahead, manage competing priorities, recognize risk early, and understand how labour productivity, changes, procurement, and execution affect project profitability.
Why This Role Is Different
This is not strictly a desk estimating position, and it is not a traditional full-time Foreman position.
Commercial/industrial estimating is the primary focus, while field leadership keeps estimating connected to real project execution. The balance will vary based on workload, assigned projects, and business needs.

Pay: $88,400.00-$104,000.00 per year
