Patient Care Supervisor, Evenings and Weekends, Forensic Psychiatric Hospital

Working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team and within a trauma informed model of care and Indigenous Cultural lens, you will oversee and coordinate the evening and weekend patient care service activities across the whole Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (FPH).

In this role, you will:
Oversee and coordinate on-going hospital development; evaluation and quality improvement activities;
Ensures effective utilization of human, fiscal, and physical resources;
Participate in the selection of nursing staff;
Identify staff education/learning needs and plans; and
Provide critical input into the performance evaluations of Direct Care Nurses and Health Care Workers.

You have:
Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP)
A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or Health Sciences (Psychiatric Nursing)
Leadership and business management courses
Minimum five (5) years’ recent, relevant clinical experience in secure and acute psychiatric hospital settings
Two (2) years’ recent experience in a leadership/supervisory capacity or
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

You also have:
Demonstrated knowledge of scope and standards of nursing practice and relevant rules and regulations.
Demonstrated critical ability to function as a strong team leader, motivator, coach/mentor, and team member within a complex acute psychiatric setting.
Supervisory skills with demonstrated ability to provide clinical and administrative supervision and consultation in a team environment.
Effective customer service skills.
Demonstrated ability to continuously communicate effectively and strategically with colleagues, physicians, and health care staff both verbally and in writing.
Ability to give and receive feedback effectively.
Ability to determine and plan for the education and learning needs of staff.
Organizational skills, with proven abilities to prioritize multiple demands in a fast paced environment.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, meet deadlines, and take initiative.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and management staff.
Ability to maintain a high level of professional confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to model and foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful working environment.
Demonstrated ability to utilize strong critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills when making decisions and resolving issues/conflict.
Ability to use evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards of practice that guide work practices and quality and safety improvement initiatives.
Strong fiscal planning and administration skills.
Ability to readily locate medical/professional-related topics or information.
Ability to operate related equipment.
Proficiency in computers and hospital based programs, keyboarding skills, relevant software such as word-processing, spreadsheet, and completing reports.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
