What You Will Do
Reporting to the Director, External Communications, the Manager, External Communications leads the TTC's external and capital communications strategy, media relations program, and thought leadership initiatives. This role is responsible for developing and executing communications plans that inform and engage stakeholders on transit expansion projects, capital investments, and key corporate priorities.
The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for media relations, issues management, stakeholder outreach, speeches, briefing materials, news releases, and executive communications. Working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, they will translate complex and technical information into clear, impactful messaging while ensuring consistency across all communication channels.
This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and collaborative communications leader with strong media relations expertise, exceptional writing skills, experience managing high-profile issues, and the ability to build effective partnerships with organizations such as the City of Toronto, Metrolinx, and regional transportation partners.
Participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Completion of a post-secondary degree/diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, combined with progressive corporate communications experience or the equivalent, along with several years of directly related work experience.
- Experience leading communications teams and managing cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong expertise in corporate communications, media relations, public relations, and journalism.
- Exceptional writing, editing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage sensitive and high-profile issues.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience translating complex information into clear, engaging communications.
- Knowledge of accessibility, accommodation, and human rights principles, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and related orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
- Please note this role will occasionally require the incumbent to work outside of normal business hours.
