This role is responsible for the development and initial analysis of the monthly and quarterly reporting of earnings to management. The position is also responsible for the accurate profitability reporting for Group Customer refund and non-refund clients. It is well suited to an individual who has strong analytical skills, works well in a team environment, as well as independently and enjoys identifying opportunities for continuous improvements.
Assists in the development of accurate analysis and financial reports for senior management (quarterly and monthly);
Produce and analyze monthly earning reports for management and inform them of any unusual movement and investigate and analyze as required to ensure accuracy or as directed;
Analyze significant gains and losses for management to review based on earnings from profitability system reports;
Quarterly reporting of group life and health claims for source of earnings reporting which includes allocation by sub-line, analysis of data and investigation of large fluctuations in data;
Assess corrective action to determine adjustments required;
Partner with internal and external audit partners to explain large income statement changes and insure supporting documentation is supplied;
Act as a liaison with the group division and internal audit for effectiveness testing of controls;
Responsible for reviewing any significant business, systems or process changes;
Evaluate and review the risks associated with key control and ensure proper procedures are in place to mitigate any of the risks;
Assist in identifying, recommending, and implementing automation of files and projects to improve accuracy and efficiency of department processes;
Projects as required.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Completion of a post-secondary education in related fields such as accounting, finance or mathematics with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience;
Preference will be given to those with a recognized accounting designation (Chartered Professional Accountant) or those working towards one;
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities;
Strong technical skills in Microsoft office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook);
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines;
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships;
Excellent communication skills both orally and written as communication is internally and externally with various stakeholders;
Ability to work well in a team environment and independently;
Working knowledge of systems such as SAP and COGNOS would be an asset.
