Job duties include:
2 days/week - Accepting donations from drive-through receiving area, deciding acceptability of items and communicating with donors in a courteous and respectful fashion; Educating the public as to how their donations serve their community; Processing donations and routing to appropriate destination – hard goods, soft goods, or trash/recycling; Sorting donations as to their condition and pricing them; Preparing buggies and/or hanging clothes for distribution in the store; Delivering buggies or racks into the store as needed; Ensuring that receiving area is kept clean and tidy; Working to ensure that items qualifying for recycling are placed in their respective bins and assists in maintaining a high standard for the recycling program.
2 days/week - Cashier and retail sales associate, opening and closing; pricing and displaying merchandise in the front of store; customer service
Skills required: Ability to lift 50 lbs or more, work safely in a very busy environment, where space can be limited; Able to work under pressure in an environment with rapidly changing priorities; Exercise good judgement and able to discriminate unsaleable items; Strong communication skills; Able to accept feedback well; Work well independently and on a team; Able to work with people with diverse abilities; Friendly, outgoing personality; Some knowledge of thrift stores would be useful; Some retail experience would be an asset; Valid Class 5 Driver’s license would be a definite asset, along with a clean driving record.
Strong cash handling skills; good problem solving skills; excellent communication.
This position is one in which a great deal of variety exists, as well as rapidly shifting priorities.
