Reporting directly to the Manager of Policy, Heritage and Design this role is responsible for supporting the Town in the development and implementation urban design policies consistent with the Town’s Official Plan and associated design guidelines. As the Senior Urban Designer, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
Responsible for providing detailed urban design comments through the review of planning applications, taking into consideration applicable Town design policies and guidelines along with best urban design practices
Responsible for coordinating architectural control peer review processes.
Participate in preliminary and DART meetings to provide urban design comments and insight to applicants
Prepare and update urban design standards, guidelines, studies, community visions, reports and other initiatives; and, manages the ongoing interpretation and maintenance of associated documents
Represent the Town of Caledon at Hearings and other Legal Tribunals and act in place of the Manager to present urban design interests as assigned
COVID-19: In consideration of the current pandemic and Public Health orders, the Town of Caledon is providing limited in-person services as Town Hall is open to the public by appointment only. The successful candidate for Senior Urban Designer will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a professional with education, training and/or knowledge in the above, normally acquired from a Post-Secondary degree in Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Planning, Architecture, or closely related field. Our ideal candidate has 5-7 years related experience in urban design and is eligible for membership with OPPI, OAA and/or OALA. We are seeking an individual familiar with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles and the ability to review projects from an accessibility and CPTED perspective. Knowledge of GIS and/or AMANDA would be an asset.

This position offers a salary range of $87,033.66 - $102,374.76 plus a competitive benefit package.
