Job Summary
We are seeking a high-energy, resilient, and results-driven Inside & Outside Sales Representative to drive revenue growth, asset utilization, and long-term customer relationships across our logistics operations. This role combines high-volume inside sales activity with strategic outside business development, requiring the ability to identify immediate freight opportunities while building and securing long-term customer partnerships.
You will actively prospect and engage freight forwarders, 3PLs, brokers, branch managers, pricing directors, and supply chain decision-makers through cold calling, email outreach, networking, and in-person meetings. You will be responsible for capturing spot-market freight, quoting daily lanes, maximizing utilization of our trucks, flatbeds, warehouse, and other logistics assets, while also developing opportunities for dedicated lanes, contractual drayage programs, and multi-service logistics solutions.
The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable picking up the phone to win today's load and sitting across the table from a senior decision-maker to win tomorrow's contract. Success in this role will be measured by new customer acquisition, revenue growth, freight volume, asset utilization, retention of key accounts, and the ability to expand relationships across Drayage, Transload, Storage, Final Mile, and related transportation services.
What You Will Do Daily
- Develop and execute a high-volume sales strategy through outbound calls, emails, LinkedIn, networking, in-person meetings, and industry events to generate both immediate freight opportunities and long-term customer relationships.
- Execute 50+ outbound sales touchpoints per day to freight forwarders, 3PLs, brokers, industrial shippers, branch managers, pricing directors, and supply chain decision-makers.
- Prospect, qualify, pitch, negotiate, and close both spot-market freight and contract-based business within an assigned territory and customer portfolio.
- Identify customers' immediate supply chain challenges—including port/rail congestion, capacity shortages, missed cutoffs, container overflow, storage requirements, and transportation constraints—and position the company's assets and services as solutions.
- Provide fast, accurate, and profitable spot-market quotes for drayage, transloading, storage, dry-van, flatbed, final-mile, and related transportation services.
- Develop pricing strategies and participate in corporate RFPs, annual freight bids, dedicated-lane opportunities, and multi-year transportation contracts.
- Monitor truck, flatbed, yard, warehouse, and other asset availability and proactively sell empty capacity, backhauls, open yard space, warehouse capacity, and other available services.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with freight forwarders, 3PLs, brokers, shippers, and supply chain executives, becoming a trusted strategic partner rather than simply a transactional salesperson.
- Conduct face-to-face customer meetings, executive presentations, facility/yard tours, networking events, and business reviews to demonstrate the company's operational capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell and expand accounts by turning individual service requirements into comprehensive logistics solutions, including Drayage + Transload + Storage + Final Mile + Transportation.
- Lead customer discussions for dedicated lanes, contractual drayage programs, warehousing, transloading, and multi-service logistics arrangements.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline, identify target accounts, map key decision-makers, develop account strategies, and consistently move opportunities through the sales cycle from prospecting to closing.
- Conduct regular Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and customer follow-ups to protect existing business, identify growth opportunities, improve retention, and increase account revenue.
- Negotiate pricing and commercial terms while maintaining a strong balance between customer competitiveness, volume growth, and company profitability.
- Collaborate closely with dispatch, operations, warehouse, fleet, and management teams to ensure that customer commitments are operationally achievable and delivered as promised.
- Seamlessly hand off booked freight and newly awarded business to internal operational teams with 100% accurate pricing, customer, load, and service information.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of prospects, opportunities, quotes, customer interactions, contracts, and account activity within the company's CRM and TMS systems.
- Continuously research market conditions, competitor pricing, customer needs, port/rail activity, and industry trends to identify new business opportunities and maintain a competitive advantage.
- Consistently achieve assigned sales, revenue, gross profit, volume, customer acquisition, and asset-utilization targets.
Key Performance Expectations
The successful candidate will be expected to balance high-volume transactional sales with strategic relationship-based selling—winning today's available freight while building the customer relationships and contracts that generate tomorrow's recurring revenue.
The role requires someone who can make the cold call, close the spot load, conduct the executive presentation, negotiate the contract, and then grow the account.
