Our client is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Reporting to join their finance team. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, this role will initially focus on owning the fixed asset and capital accounting function, including maintaining the integrity of a large and complex PP&E portfolio, supporting capital projects, enhancing processes and controls, and acting as the primary accounting resource for fixed asset-related matters.
While the role will begin with a strong emphasis on fixed assets, capital accounting, and lease accounting, responsibilities will gradually expand to include broader financial reporting activities over time. - Manage and reconcile the fixed asset sub-ledger, including asset capitalization, transfers, disposals, and depreciation.
- Support accounting for capital projects by tracking expenditures, monitoring project progress, and coordinating timely capitalization of completed assets.
- Partner with operational teams to ensure consistency and accuracy between operational systems and financial records.
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reporting packages, including financial statements, management reporting, and audit committee materials.
- Conduct technical accounting research and support the accounting treatment of complex transactions and agreements.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules related to property, plant, and equipment (PP&E) and capital assets.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting policies and reporting requirements.
- Assist with audit requests and collaborate with external auditors during annual and interim audits.
- Monitor changes in accounting standards and support implementation of new reporting requirements.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency, strengthening controls, and enhancing reporting quality.
- Assist with the documentation and maintenance of key financial processes and internal controls.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and reporting to support business decision-making.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across finance, operations, procurement, and other business functions to support accurate financial reporting.
- CPA designation completed or in progress.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in financial reporting, accounting, or finance.
- Experience with fixed asset accounting, capital accounting, lease accounting, or project accounting is considered a strong asset.
- Experience supporting full-cycle financial statement close processes within a corporate or industry environment.
- Strong understanding of IFRS, including exposure to property, plant and equipment (IAS 16), leases (IFRS 16), and consolidated financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and manipulate large datasets.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across the organization.
- Experience working with large ERP systems and financial reporting tools is preferred.
