Site: Toronto General Hospital

Reports to: Manager
Salary Grade: A054
Salary Range: $30.75 - $31.43
Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Mon – Fri (evening shift 12pm to 8pm)
Status: Permanent Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY:
As a member of Facility Management Operations, the responsibilities of the STEAMFITTER include: maintaining the hospital site’s piping systems, including repairing and replacing necessary components; assembling and constructing piping; installing pipes that carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes; working in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention’s of the Act, in a timely manner; performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required, including, assisting with staff orientation, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

At minimum completion of high school plus Steamfitter/Pipefitter license
6,000 hours of on-the-job training, {8 weeks (240 hours) technical training in a classroom each year for four years
Good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
Ability to stand for long periods of time with strength and stamina to lift heavy materials, required.
Ability to do careful and exacting work, required.
Clear understanding of how different systems work (i.e., vacuum system, heat converters, instant hot water heating, flash tank, condensate tanks, forced air heating and cooling, pumps, fans, medical vacuum, medical air, compressed air and clothes dryers), required.
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
Performs cross-functional duties as assigned and/or require such as maintaining and clearing drains, snaking toilets, etc. and minor plumbing work as assigned.
Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task.
Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies.
Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations
Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
