THIS IS A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT POSITION FOR A BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEE. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.
Located in Orillia and reporting to the Field Placement Manager, the incumbent develops, implements and manages field placement and internship experiences for students in full-time and part-time HSCS programs. These opportunities allow students to demonstrate competencies/ learning outcomes in the field aligned with their program of study. This role is pivotal to the establishment and maintenance of relationships with community partners in the sector. Program assignments vary according to academic cycles. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinating all aspects of the mandatory field placements/internship experiences in HSCS programs, explaining processes and protocols to students, advising on options available, and reviewing individual needs or requirements
- Providing information and outreach to students 1:1 or through program information sessions to educate on field placement/internship expectations, opportunities and requirements
- Developing relationships with community partners through direct outreach, program connections and community engagement
- Monitoring confirmed placement opportunities and vacancies to meet identified targets
- Acting as a liaison, in collaboration with program coordinator(s) and faculty lead, between placement and internship hosts, faculty monitors and students
- Developing placement promotional and marketing materials to ensure community partners are provided relevant information
- Analyzing placement data to identify new opportunities for community connections
- Conducting periodic community partner check-ins to manage partner relations and assess ongoing appropriateness of the placement/internship opportunity
- Directing students to Program Coordinators to review placement/internship options and opportunities for PLAR/exemptions when requested
- Recommending alignment of college monitors to community partners to conduct on site visits to monitor practical work experiences
- Planning and implementing part-time monitor orientation for field placement/internship semesters
- Supporting annual updating for Field Placement Manual, Placement Dashboard and field placement requirements within program guides
- Maintaining GeorgianConnects field placement electronic records including catalogue of opportunities, employer records, student questionnaires, etc.
- Supporting placement monitor and lead placement faculty in providing information and direction regarding concerns occurring during placement experiences
- Liaising with Field Placement Manager and Associate Dean as required for escalated concerns such as critical incidents, terminations or partner dissolutions
- Ensuring documentation, recordkeeping and placement/internship notes are current, accurate and organized
- Entering student grades on Student Information System (SIS) following each placement/internship course at the recommendation of the lead placement faculty
- Preparing reports/summaries, as required, for manager, Program Coordinators, Dean, Registrar and other applicable college constituents
- Recruiting appropriate placement agencies that meet program competency and outcomes for student experiences in the field
- Gathering and synthesizing feedback from students and community partners to inform placement and program action planning
- Participating in curriculum, team and Program Advisory Committee meetings as necessary to develop and report on placement activities
- Preparing and managing specific projects related to placement/internship office processes, requirements and initiatives as required
- Promoting community studies placement opportunities at internal (eg. Open House) and external functions
Qualifications:
- Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma/degree in a relevant field that may include, but is not limited to Human Services
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role where duties included working with various partners and community agencies to build relationships and develop and coordinate opportunities such as placements, educational experiences, employment opportunities, volunteer placements, etc.
- Experience tracking and maintaining data and records within a computerized database. GeorgianConnects experience would be an asset
- Computer skills and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook and Excel) and MS Teams
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with various stakeholders including community agencies
- Decision making and judgement skills
- Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to travel to various campuses
