Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostic Services

Position Description
The CAMH Clinical Laboratory hosts a varied test menu of routine Core Chemistry and Hematology assays using conventional automated analyzers, along with a specialty menu in Toxicology testing using state of the art technology. Referral laboratory partners are instrumental in achieving the fulsome test menu. Reporting to the Clinical Laboratory Manager and Director, the Laboratory Informatics Technologist will participate in the evaluation, implementation and maintenance of vendor-based applications specific to the Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostic Services; including developing expert knowledge of the Cerner PathNet LIS (Laboratory Information System) and its related applications, and Cobas IT (POCT). Responsibilities include: collaboration with the Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Applications Coordinator and/or inter-professional applications specialists to develop plans for validation, implementation, and integration of new clinical applications relevant to the Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostic Services; maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting of all existing laboratory applications, related interfaces and peripheral hardware; review of current literature for updates on appropriate applications; create and/or revise relevant laboratory policies and procedures ; use expert knowledge of the application and query language to design and generate queries and reports to facilitate the monitoring/investigating of data by management and clinical staff; provide advice, guidance and training for laboratory and/or inter-professional end users; contribute to the examination of data integrity and output. This position may include cross functional duties, as assigned. The Laboratory Informatics Technologist will work in compliance with all the laboratory accreditation requirements as set forth by the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH), and adhere to hospital value statements and departmental policies and procedures.

The successful candidate is registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO) and has specialized certification in relevant laboratory applications combined with three years LIS experience. Experience with Cerner Millennium is preferred, as is a University degree in a relevant field combined with relevant work experience. In addition, experience is also required with automated laboratory equipment, and related internal and external interface applications. Completion of post-secondary programming and database management/administration program(s) or equivalent is preferred. Experience in system analysis with information management design and execution experience is preferred.

The successful candidate is proficient with Microsoft Office and has demonstrated advanced computer skills; has experience working in databases; has sound knowledge and experience with hospital information system (HIS) requirements, with a demonstrated understanding of the measurement of laboratory workload; has experience providing end-user support; has demonstrated skills in managing multiple tasks if required; understands and applies the requirements of the laboratory quality management system consistently; has excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written); works collaboratively and productively in a busy team environment; has exceptional organizational skills, and prioritizes tasks to ensure good and prompt patient care while achieving high work efficiency; shows independent judgment, and deductive reasoning with attention to details. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary.

Salary Range: $36.27 – $48.92 per hour
