Senior Engineer (Generation Field Maintenance)

Position Highlights
We are seeking an experienced and practical electrical engineer with a background in maintenance, troubleshooting, and
repair of industrial equipment to support BC Hydro’s Generation field maintenance team on Vancouver Island. In this
position, you will provide field-focused technical leadership to BC Hydro crews and management for hydro generators and
associated powerhouse, substation, dam, gates, and water passage equipment.
The Vancouver Island team supports six generating stations: Jordan River, Ash River, Puntledge, John Hart spillway and
dam, Ladore, and Strathcona. These mature facilities present interesting equipment challenges, a complex
maintenance program, and extensive ongoing capital work. The position is headquartered in Campbell River, a beautiful
community with small-city amenities and exceptional access to outdoor recreation.
What you'll do
- Provide electrical engineering support for Generation stations on Vancouver Island, including Jordan River, Ash River,
Puntledge, John Hart spillway and dam, Ladore, and Strathcona.
- Provide technical leadership and practical field guidance to maintenance crews, operations, and management for field
troubleshooting, urgent equipment issues, forced outage support, and return-to-service decisions.
- Review, revise, and make technical recommendations on preventative maintenance programs, maintenance
instructions, corrective actions, and maintenance strategy improvements.
- Support Equipment Health Ratings, condition assessments, inspection and test data review, and Reliability Centered
Maintenance strategies for generating station equipment.
- Support capital planning, plant improvement projects, and equipment modifications by providing maintainability,
reliability, and field-execution input.
- Participate in and lead root cause analysis for equipment failures and recurring issues.
- Travel to support generating stations on Vancouver Island as required.
Overall, the Generation Field Maintenance Engineer provides practical technical leadership across Vancouver Island
generating facilities, working closely with crews, managers, and internal partners to support safe, reliable plant operation.
What you bring
- A degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a professional engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of hydro-electric generation, industrial maintenance, or equipment reliability.
