Financial Controller

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controller is responsible and accountable for the overall day-to-day oversight and management of the accounting and financial functions of the company. The position develops and maintains accounting principles, practices and procedures for the Company. Ensures compliance with federal and provincial government regulations, addresses a multitude of internal accounting activities that involve general ledger preparation, real-time finance reporting, financial statements, financial analysis, year end audit preparation and support for budget and forecast activities. The incumbent is located at the Head Office in Woodstock.There are two other locations, one in Cambridge and one in Stoney Creek.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Manage the accounting and financial function/systems of the Company
  • Ensure accuracy and timely execution of daily operational and financial transactions
  • Establish and maintain cash flow controls and ledger accounts
  • Update Chart of Accounts
  • Develop and prepare financial reports/statements for the President & Chief Executive Officer
  • Provide controller-ship functions to ensure finances are managed according to legislation
  • Review internal controls, processes and procedures
  • Controlling and monitoring investments and reserves
  • Approving accounts payable, requisitions, purchases, receipts and records pertaining to the operations of the Department
  • Liaising with external auditors

Budget Preparation

  • Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation and prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer & President
  • Reporting on business performance

Project Management

  • Maintain financial records for each project
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting on projects

Risk Management

  • Monitor risk management policies and procedures
  • Advise organizations leadership on the appropriate insurance coverage
  • Maximize income where possible and appropriate
  • Negotiate with banks for lines of credit or other financial services as required

Purchasing/Inventory Management

  • Develop purchasing practices, policies and procedures
  • Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded and disposed of as appropriate
  • Ensure credit checks for customers are completed and they have the ability to pay the Company

Information Technology

  • Oversee the Information Technology aspects of the Company

Management Responsibilities

  • Endorse and uphold the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to the President & Chief Executive Officer
  • Understand and abide by all Acts of legislation and regulations that affect the company
  • Mitigate risk to the Company by annually monitoring and evaluating appropriate insurance coverage to limit the Company's exposure to loss

Required Education/Experience

  • Accredited University or College Diploma in an Accounting, Economics, Commerce or Business Management/Administration Program
  • A current recognized CPA accounting designation or equivalent with associated current professional association membership is essential, as well as the ability to demonstrate a minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in Finance or Accounting management including cost accounting, finance or general account within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced excel skills and demonstrated experience working with spreadsheets, financial accounting software systems and programs such as Quick books and CRM data-bases, email and internet

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of computerized office and internal control procedures and operating systems and software interfaces
