Working as a member of a Maintenance and Support Services team, the successful candidate will ensure that laundry for the children/youth in the Out-of-Home Living program is clean, folded and put away in an organized fashion. They will also be responsible for labelling clothing, maintaining an inventory of each child/youth’s clothing and ensuring the laundry room is orderly and clean. When time allows, Laundry staff will assist the Housekeepers and Cook, as needed.
We are hiring for 2 positions:
- Sunday - Wednesday. 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Wednesday - Saturday. 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
This position reports to Maintenance and Support Services Supervisor.
Key responsibilities
- Washing, drying, folding, and sorting children’s clothing and linens on a daily basis.
- Ensuring all clothing is returned to the appropriate child and placed in designated storage areas.
- Completing and maintaining an inventory of each child’s clothing, seasonal clothing, and all footwear.
- Labeling children’s clothing if new items are purchased or brought in to ensure that everything is properly identified.
- Identifying and reporting missing or damaged clothing to the child’s supervisor or designated staff.
- Organizing, labeling, and rotating seasonal clothing and footwear as required.
- Maintaining the laundry room in a clean, safe, and orderly condition at all times.
- Ensuring laundry supplies are adequately stocked and notifying the supervisor when supplies are low.
- Following infection-control, health, and safety procedures related to laundry handling.
- Ensuring all laundry products and supplies are kept out of reach of children.
- Removing any potentially hazardous items from the laundry area and notifying the supervisor or maintenance personnel as required.
- Responding appropriately and promptly to urgent laundering needs (e.g., heat cleaning soft items exposed to lice).
- Maintaining confidentiality and respect for children’s personal belongings.
- Assisting the housekeeping staff and Cook/Kitchen Coordinator when time allows.
Qualifications
- Previous laundry and/or housekeeping experience preferred
- Clear Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check
- Completion of required orientation and ongoing training
