Pharmacy Assistant Student, Part-Time

Are you interested in a career as a Pharmacy Assistant? Enroll in the Sobeys sponsored SAIT Online Pharmacy Assistant Training Program with guaranteed employment, upon successful completion. No previous Pharmacy experience required! This entry level position includes a 14-week course combining online and in-store training. The Pharmacy Assistant is responsible for providing superior customer service in a friendly, knowledgeable and professional manner. You will focus on the achievement of Pharmacy excellence in the areas of customer service, workflow efficiencies, and inventory management. This is a part-time position up to 32 hours per week with benefits.

Program Information

Successful completion of the Sobeys sponsored SAIT Online Pharmacy Assistant Training Program is a condition of employment with the Company
Must accept employment as a Pharmacy Assistant with the Company
Must be willing to make a two (2) year commitment of employment with the Company
$1,000.00 registration deposit will be reimbursed by Sobeys upon successful completion of the program
Job Description

The Pharmacy Assistant is responsible for providing superior customer service in a friendly, knowledgeable and professional manner. You will perform various medication related duties including: distribution and delivery, packaging, inventory management, and records maintenance. Responsibilities include:

Prescription assembly
Select, package, and label medications
Maintain patient files
Create electronic medical records and drug order entry
Input and maintain customer profiles in software databases
Receive and input prescription orders
Act as first point of contact with the public in-person and by phone
Inventory Support
Maintain medication inventory levels and monitor product expiry dates
Order, receive, unpack, inspect and restock pharmaceutical goods
Operate a cash register
Replenish supplies and keep work area clean and orderly
Constant standing and frequent walking
Occasionally lifting and carrying 10-20 lbs

Job Requirements

Must have access to a computer and printer at home (cannot be a MAC computer). Computer specs:
Intel i5 Core processor or higher; 8GB DDR3; RAM, 500GB hard drive; Windows 7 x 64 Professional operating system ; A headset with a microphone
Completion of high school diploma or GED
Must demonstrate English language proficiency
Proficient in keyboarding and basic computer skills
Average typing speed of 35 - 45 WPM
Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and time-management skills
Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
Ability to carefully follow written and verbal directions, and comply with company policies and procedures
Ability to maintain a high level of empathy when working with patients
Open availability to work days, evenings and weekends

Education and Experience:
Pharmacy Assistant certificate from a recognized Canadian College
Will consider applicants with 2 years retail Canadian Pharmacy Experience in lieu of certificate in some Provinces
Experience with Sobeys National Pharmacy Group Computer systems
