We are hiring for a Full-Time Registered Nurse position at Wexford Creek in Nanaimo.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Care Manager (takes on senior supervisory role in the absence of the CM). In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, performs assessments, plans, implements and provides personal and nursing care to residents. Administers oral and subcutaneous, and intra-muscular medications in accordance with pharmaceutical and organizational policies and procedures. The RN operates in accordance with the competency guidelines of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the BCCNP, and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards specific to Wexford Creek. Responsibilities include the direct supervision of care staff, and Licensed Practical Nurses to meet resident’s needs.
Education, Training and Experience:
· Graduation from a recognized program for Registered Nurses
· One year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
· Comply with all employment requirements as detailed in the SimpeQ employment package and Licensing guidelines
· MDS training
- Potential candidates must be registered with the BC Nurses College (BCCNM)

Responsibilities:
1. Assesses and monitors resident and family’s actual and potential strengths and limitations including physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual needs. Where appropriate, encourages resident participation in activities of daily living. Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the resident and significant others through the use of interpersonal and interviewing techniques ensuring resident choice and autonomy in decision-making and care planning.
2. Contributes to the development and ongoing changes to the individualized plan of care, including attending and providing input into multidisciplinary care planning meeting and family conferences. Advocates in the interest of the resident and significant others.

4. Administers oral, intra-muscular and, subcutaneous medications including PRN medication in accordance with organizational and pharmaceutical policies and procedures.
5. Supervises staff by performing duties such as scheduling and co-ordinating work assignments, evaluating performance and determining related training and orientation requirements. Assists care staff in the on-going assessment, formulation and implementation of care plans and evaluation of individual resident care, and ensures care is given as recommended. Ensures that all staff are performing tasks safely.
6. Performs nursing procedures and interventions and monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the procedures and interventions. Procedures include head to toe assessments, airway management, nutrition management, catheterizations, applying and changing simple sterile and/or non-sterile dressings, colostomy care and irrigation, taking/recording blood pressures, administering suppositories and enemas, taking/recording temperature, pulse and respiration; records observations and reports problems and/or changes to designated nursing staff.
7. Provides maintenance of peripheral intravenous infusions by assessing the intracath insertion site, monitoring flow rate and discontinuing peripheral IV access when ordered by the physician.
8. Communicates the client’s condition and changes to the Care Team, DOC, and Physician.
9. Assists as necessary with personal care to residents, which may include assisting with bathing, dressing, care of skin and hair; assisting with toilet needs; and overseeing patient exercise routines.
10. Supervise and assist as necessary with meals, maintaining intake and output records as required.
11. Performs admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients/residents/clients according to facility operating policies and procedures.
12. Knowledge of MDS and Point Click Care or Gold Care.
13. Documents and updates all relevant information about care and procedures to achieve resident safety and comfort according to unit specific policy and procedure.
14. Performs related clerical duties such as answering the telephone, making appointments, ordering supplies, completing QA audits and initiating diagnostic requisitions.
15. Schedules staff to cover sick calls in the absence of the H.R. manager.
16. Assists in the orientation and sharing information with new staff, students, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
17. Participates in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings and committees.
18. Maintains a safe environment for resident, significant others and staff by adhering to established health and safety policies, standards and procedures including emergency procedures and infection control guidelines.
19. Reports unsafe conditions and malfunctioning equipment.
20. Commitment to teamwork.
21. Performs other related duties as assigned by Manager.

Resident Safety:
- Perform all duties in a manner in which client safety is the focus.
- Report any unsafe activities that may cause harm or injury to a client.
- Educate other co-workers/colleagues on the proper safety techniques when there is a possibility of endangering a client.
- Observe and correct any unsafe behavior demonstrated by client.
Physical Demands:
· Job requires a significant amount of sitting, standing, reaching, walking, lifting and walking (according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Definitions, this job is considered “Medium”).
· Lifting 50lbs maximum.
· Frequently lifting and/or carrying objects up to 20lbs.
· May involve sitting with pushing and pulling or arm and/or leg controls.
· Must be able to handle stressful situations in the workplace.

Pay: $49.20-$63.47 per hour
