Scansa Construction Ltd. is growing their Civil Division, specializing in underground utilities, roadworks, municipal infrastructure, and site development projects throughout the Greater Victoria area.
We are seeking an experienced, versatile, and team-oriented Civil Pipelayer who takes pride in producing quality work and contributing to a high-performing civil construction crew.
The ideal candidate has experience installing underground utility infrastructure, enjoys working collaboratively with equipment operators and labourers, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, productivity, and workmanship.

Responsibilities
- Install sanitary, storm, and watermain infrastructure in accordance with project specifications and municipal standards
- Interpret construction drawings, grades, and utility layouts
- Direct equipment operators during trench excavation, pipe installation, bedding, and backfilling operations
- Install and assemble PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, concrete, and related underground utility systems
- Ensure proper pipe alignment, grade, and joint installation using lasers, grade rods, and other surveying equipment
- Perform utility tie-ins, service installations, manholes, catch basins, valve chambers, hydrants, and related civil infrastructure
- Safely install trench shoring systems and follow excavation safety requirements
- Perform rigging and signalling for lifting pipe, structures, and materials
- Complete quality control checks to ensure installations meet project specifications
- Assist with grading, site servicing, and general civil construction duties as required
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Work closely with foremen, grade personnel, operators, labourers, and truck drivers to complete projects safely and efficiently
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience installing underground utilities in civil construction
- Proven experience with sanitary, storm, and watermain installations
- Strong understanding of municipal construction standards and specifications
- Experience reading construction drawings, grades, and utility layouts
- Experience working around live underground utilities
- Knowledge of trench safety, shoring requirements, and excavation regulations
- Experience operating lasers, pipe levels, and grade equipment
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Ability to lead by example while working as part of a productive crew
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to producing quality workmanship
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to assist with general labour duties and support the crew wherever needed
Employment Wages/Incentives
- Compensation: $35.00 - $42.00 per hour, based on experience, technical knowledge, versatility, leadership, and proven ability to contribute as a skilled Civil Pipelayer and member of the civil construction crew
- Overtime paid in accordance with Employment Standards
