Dr. Csilla Kalocsai, Principal Investigator and Education Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute, is seeking a part-time Research Associate to support qualitative research and knowledge translation activities across several studies. Current funding is for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal.
Dr. Kalocsai leads several research studies on social justice efforts in health professions, education and care in context of organizational and social change. As a successful candidate, you will demonstrate strengths in theory-informed and theory informing qualitative social and health research, an unwavering commitment to equity and justice, as well as capacity to facilitate ongoing engagement with community partners and diverse individuals across the hospital.
Summary of duties include (but not limited to):
Responsible for participating partially or fully in all stages of research studies:
- Preparation of ethics applications and renewals
- Liaising with study investigators, members of the Black and Indigenous Data Governance Tables and other hospital staff to facilitate recruitment
- Conducting participant recruitment/enrollment and informed consent processes
- Performing data collection, maintenance, and analysis
- Reviewing literature in the field of study
- Maintaining recruitment logs and study files to securely store, access, and retrieve data
- Communicating with Principal, Co-Principal Investigators and the Black and Indigenous Data Governance Tables to provide updates
- Leading and/or assisting team members with the preparation of materials for presentations, progress reports and publications
- Participating and presenting in internal and external seminars and conferences
- Leading manuscript writing
- Utilizing study findings in the development and writing of grant proposals for new research activities
Required qualifications:
- PhD in social sciences, education and/or relevant field
- Firsthand knowledge and understanding of racialized and marginalized peoples in Canada preferred
- Experience working with racialized and marginalized people and communities in Canada
- Demonstrated experience in qualitative and narrative interviewing, ethnographic observation, and thematic and narrative analysis
- Demonstrated experience of using social and critical theories for interpreting data and framing arguments in manuscripts
- Ability to work across several research projects
- Ability to foster authentic, trusted relationships with a variety of people
- Ability to address problems and situations that might be uncomfortable
- Excellent verbal and written communications, interpersonal and critical thinking skills
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
- Ability to work well in a deadline-oriented and team-based environment with competing priorities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Some flexibility to work between Monday to Friday, both in-person and online.
