Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist who specializes in Genomics

testing to become a member of our dynamic team. This busy lab is a well-respected referral site

performing quality cytogenetic/molecular testing and leading the way in next generation DNA sequencing

for the evaluation of cancer. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Manager,

Laboratory and under the direction of molecular pathologist.

This individual should have graduated from a recognized Cytogenetic/Molecular program from an

accredited College, and should be registered and in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory

technologists of Ontario. We are seeking candidates with recent and relevant experience in clinical

genomic testing, as well as those with experience in the techniques of nucleic acid extraction and

handling, PCR (end point, real-time, digital), capillary electrophoresis for fragment length analysis, and

high-throughput (next generation) sequencing.

Education and

 Graduate of a recognized Cytogenetic/ Molecular program.
 Current professional registration and licensure with the College of Medical

Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
 Current WHMIS certification and Mask Fit.
 Ministry of Labour ‘Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training

certificate is required.

Experience:  Recent and relevant experience in clinical genomic testing is required
 Experience with the following techniques: nucleic acid extraction and handling,

PCR (end point, real-time, digital), capillary electrophoresis for fragment length
analysis, high-throughput sequencing (aka next generation sequencing).


 Excellent clinical laboratory technical skills.
 Demonstrated ability to recognize, troubleshoot and communicate

equipment/reagent related malfunctions and to initiate appropriate remedial

 Skill with computers and associated technology, including data analysis
programs and laboratory information systems.

 Demonstrated knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Quality Assurance Programs
and proficiency testing requirements.

 Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures to ensure the
privacy and safety of customers, coworkers and self.

 Participate in continuing education opportunities.

 Ability to work both independently and as within a team.
 Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven
