Reporting to the Coordinator, Facilities Management, the Facilities Safety Advisor is responsible for championing the safety programs/processes by fostering effective working relationships and linkages within the Facilities Management team and with other departments across the organization, as well as with consultants and vendors. The Safety Advisor will support LHSC Facilities by assisting in minimizing risks and potential losses due to injuries, policy violations or hazardous conditions within their assigned locations.
The role includes the development and delivery of departmental safety training programs and process/policy audits including: personal protective equipment inspection and distribution as well as safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Rate of Pay: $30.552 per hour - $38.190 per hour
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
Duration: January 2020 - September 2020 (8 months)
Successful completion of a diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences or Business
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred
Minimum 1.5 years recent, related experience preferably in a healthcare environment
Proven program development, implementation and evaluation experience
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel and PowerPoint
Proficiency with computer software including Archibus, Wellnet, AEMS, Articulate, iLearn preferred
Proven ability to work independantly
Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and related guidelines
Demonstrated knowledge of Hazardous Materials and their properties in order to oversee WHMIS/GHS
Demonstrated commitment to the development of professional standards, mentorship, life-long learning and excellence in health and safety
Demonstrated strong participatory leadership, team building and highly developed organizational skills
Demonstrated highly developed critical thinking skills with the ability to conceptualize and analyze problems
Demonstrated excellent problem solving, decision-making, planning and evaluation skills
Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration in an interdisciplinary team environment
Demonstrated ability to balance multiple and competing priorities on a daily basis
Demonstrated advanced facilitation, presentation and training delivery skills
Proficient project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage concurrent projects
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written including strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step)
