The Centre for Excellence is looking for an independent and highly motivated individual to join a small and dynamic team, dedicated to removing barriers to the workforce for people who have a disability.

Ontario Disability Employment Network’s (ODEN) Centre for Excellence in Employment Services’ mandate is to ensure Ontario builds and maintains a strong employment service delivery network through four core areas of work – engaging business; providing consulting services; providing top notch training and development for professionals in the sector; and, promoting innovation and best practice.

Our vision is that all people who have a disability in Ontario have access to the labour force and the ability to achieve meaningful employment.

Candidates must have an in-depth knowledge of employment services for people who have a disability and extensive knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following sectors: Mining, Forestry, Transportation/Logistics.

The Centre for Excellence operates on a virtual platform and this job requires travel all over Northern Ontario. As such, candidates must have an ergonomically suitable home office and their own computer capable of operating Windows 10, Microsoft Office 365 and other current software.

Position:
Diversity and Inclusion Specialist

Status:
Full Time – permanent

Location: Northern Ontario Region (North Bay to Thunder Bay)

Candidates must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, clean driving abstract and be willing and able to travel on a routine basis.

Education:
Completed post-secondary education from a recognized Canadian Institute or its equivalent or a minimum of five years related experience.

Experience:
  • Minimum of five years related experience in one or more of: Marketing, Sales, Public Relations and/or Communications
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following sectors: Mining, Forestry, Transportation/Logistics
  • Strong understanding of Disability Service Providers and employment program models in Ontario, including Supported Employment
Required Duties:
Consulting:
  • Engage and encourage business owners/operators to include people who have a disability in their hiring and recruitment processes
  • Develop proposals to provide consulting services for business
  • Assist businesses to develop strategic approaches to creating diverse on-boarding strategies
  • Provide disability-related training and supports to businesses
  • Coordinate/broker job opportunities with community employment agencies that will provide job candidates and support services
Training:
  • Deliver presentations and provide training to business audiences (e.g. Chambers of Commerce, HRPA, Service Clubs, Corporations, etc.)
  • Translate the business experience into training programs for service providers
  • Develop and deliver training to the employment service delivery network/sector
  • Develop and apply evaluation tools and modify curriculum and/or methods accordingly
Innovation:
  • Identify and recognize innovation in the area of on-boarding and recruitment strategies that include people who have a disability
  • Research and apply new trends and innovations in employment services and related areas
  • Research and apply new trends and innovations in recruitment and on-boarding strategies
  • Convert the above into training programs/curriculum
  • Promote innovation in various activities and initiatives of the organization
Marketing and Sales:
  • Active in social media as a promotional tool for information sharing and engagement
  • Contribute content for monthly newsletters & communiques for businesses
  • Develop a program to sell the services of the Centre for Excellence in the Northern Ontario Region with a sector specific focus
  • Apply evaluation tools and modify approaches accordingly
Capacity Building:
  • Support ODEN’s Business Champions League and business-led initiatives
  • Help identify and develop more business champions
General:
  • Organize business engagement events, presentations and sessions
  • Support and participate in ODEN events and activities (e.g. annual Rethinking Disability Conference, ODEN Connections, team meetings, etc.)
Required Skills:
  • Bilingual in French and English
  • In-depth knowledge of employment services for people who have a disability
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following sectors: Mining, Forestry, Transportation/Logistics.
  • Understanding of the business case for including people who have a disability in the workplace
  • Understanding of related business skills and strategies (e.g. Human Resource management, recruitment and outreach strategies, etc.)
  • Understanding of the peer-to-peer model of engagement
  • Intermediate user of Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Proficient use of current technology – social media, etc.
  • Proven good judgement and superior problem-solving skills
  • Collaborator and team player
