Job Synopsis
Mennonite Central Committee Saskatchewan (MCCS) Thrift Shops provide quality used clothing, housewares, and a variety of other merchandise at reasonable prices to a growing market. The Shops generate significant revenue for MCC’s relief and development projects worldwide.
This role requires 8 weeks of 0.8 FTE (32 hours/week) between July 14th and September 11th, 2026.
The MCC Thrift Shop movement was started 50 years ago in Altona, Manitoba. MCCS Thrift Shops seek to be a friendly, caring presence in their community, showing value and respect to all. Practicing and promoting faithful stewardship and care for God’s creation and raising funds for MCC are also key components to the mission statement of the Thrift Shops.
The Shop Assistant is accountable to the Manager who will provide direction for the tasks, duties and responsibilities of the Shop Assistant. This is a part-time, term position ending September 11, 2026.
The Shop Assistant accepts donations received at the Shop, ensuring a smooth and efficient processing system in the receiving area, and participates in the overall operations of the shop.

- Customer service and sales experience and/or the willingness to learn.
- Solid organizational expertise demonstrated ability to learn procedures, systems and routines.
- Precise attention to detail
- Ability to work flexible hours, including day and weekend shifts within hours of retail operations.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11 to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- Requires about 6 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in a standard workday.
- Ability to repeatedly bend or stoop to floor level shelves and able to reach upper shelves with use of a stool or a ladder when necessary.
- Written and verbal communication skills within today's technologies
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, and willing to take initiative, while at the same time responding to the direction of the co-managers and management team
- Passionate and enthusiastic about interacting with customers and volunteers; demonstrated interpersonal skills with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds; friendly and outgoing.
- Satisfactory criminal record check, required.
Location Description
Saskatchewan has approximately 1 million people, 35% living in rural areas. The majority are 2nd-to-5th generation Canadians of European descent; 15% are of First Nations origin, 5% Metis. About 700 people arrive in the province each year as refugees.
The MCC constituency includes 96 churches, most belonging to Mennonite Church Saskatchewan and the SK Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. Rosthern Junior College, a Mennonite high school is also a part of the constituency.
