Bloodvein River First Nation seeks to fill a full-time First Nation Family Law Assistant Coordinator position. The First Nations Family Law Assistant Coordinator will work in tandem with the First Nations Family Law Coordinator and Legal Team to develop adaptable templates for traditional family laws within our First Nation. The family law of this project focuses on collecting and analyzing information on how our First Nation members manage family and child matters. Traditional Indigenous family law is premised on stories and historical accounts; the First Nation Family Law Assistant Coordinator will work directly with the coordinator and our legal team. Additionally, the position will contribute to drafting federal legislation to support and protect Manitoba First Nations' inherent jurisdiction over children and families.
DUTIES
· Duties assigned by the coordinator to ensure that resources meet the needs of the committee and community members.
· Provides direct assistance to the coordinator to ensure adequate resources for information gathering.
· Planning scheduled events for public knowledge and accessibility of the progress of creating the laws.
· Scheduling committee meetings and taking meeting minutes.
· Ability to respond appropriately to a wide range of inquiries and present a willingness to provide direction to all resources that are accessible to all community members.
· Assist the coordinator in managing and compiling all expenditures to ensure the committee stays within a budget.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Degree/Certificate in administrative assistance, or education related to administration; and
· Knowledge and experience in the administrative field is a necessity.
· Knowledge of First Nation issues related to the Child and Family Services system; and
· Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Experience working with First Nation and in First Nation communities.
· A valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to Travel.
· Knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices.
· Fluency in the Anishinaabe Ojibwe language and identifying as part of an indigenous group would be an asset.
