Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Warehouse Assistant to support our daily warehouse operations, inventory organization, and food distribution efforts. In this hands-on role, you will play a crucial part in staging and loading food supplies while acting as a welcoming point of contact for our community partners. The ideal candidate is physically capable, safety-minded, customer-service oriented, and willing to operate or learn to operate warehouse equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Staging & Loading:
- Safely stack, stage, and organize food products onto pallets and carts.
- Accurately prepare food supplies for scheduled distribution.
- Safely load/unload items into transport vehicles and partners' vehicles.
- Equipment & Inventory Operations:
- Operate a forklift to move heavy pallets, stack inventory, and transport materials throughout the warehouse(s) safely.
- Assist with organizing inventory to ensure efficient storage, clear walkthroughs, accurate stock counts and ensuring alignment with food safe principles.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment by adhering to all warehouse safety guidelines.
- Accurately record all data for in-coming and out-going products
- Community Engagement & Service:
- Warmly greet community partners upon arrival
- Communicate clearly and professionally to coordinate pickups and answer partner questions.
- Assist partners with loading their supplies efficiently and courteously.
- Support food bank and/or partner-initiated events and fundraisers.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Physical Capability:
- Ability to comfortably lift, carry, push, and pull up to 48 lbs on a regular basis throughout your shift.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periods in a warehouse environment.
- Vehicle and Equipment Operation:
- Must hold a Class 5 drivers license with a clean driving record
- Prior experience operating a pallet jack, power pallet jack and power pallet stacker.
- Forklift experience and certification.
- Candidates without prior experience must demonstrate a strong willingness and capability to undergo training and learn equipment operation.
- Computer and Technical Skills
- Basic computer proficiency with strong attention to detail when logging incoming/outgoing product, stock counts and partner distribution records.
- Proficiency and professionalism with emails and document creation.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication via email and text.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Friendly, approachable, and community-focused demeanor.
- Work Ethic & Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Schedule and Availability
- Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm with availability for weekends and statutory holidays as needed to support food bank operations.
Pre-Employment Screening
- Criminal Record Check: Due to the nature of our operations and direct involvement with the community, a clean record check is a mandatory requirement for employment at Lake Country Food Assistance Society.
Wages and Benefits
· Starting rate: $20.00/hr. Upon successful completion of 3 months, the wage will be increased to $22.00/hr.
· Benefits package: health and dental benefits will be offered after 3 months of continuous employment.
