Patient Information Clerk

As a Patient Information Clerk, you will frequently be the first point of contact when patients and families arrive at the department. You will provide service in a customer-focused manner. You will facilitate the delivery of patient care by providing a high level of support and assistance to patient, cluster staff and patients/families. You will also support the operation of the team/department by providing clerical and administrative functions in a proactive, organized manner.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do

Greet patients and families, and assist in meeting their needs when appropriate
Provide navigation, unit/department policy-related guidance, and provide wayfinding information
Register, input, organize and maintain patient chart information in both electronic and paper systems
Maintain unit flow, patient bookings, incoming and outgoing service activity, electronic calendar/schedules
Coordinate unit administrative functions locally and between multiple areas of hospital to ensure efficient operation of the unit, within scope of authority
Collaborate with nursing, medical, allied health and support staff to coordinate patient and family care
Prepare requisitions, referrals, labels, and other documents
Provide clerical support to all health care staff
Perform other duties as assigned

Here’s What You’ll Need

Diploma from a recognized Medical Administration program
Medical Terminology certificate
Previous clerical experience in a hospital/medical environment
Experience with patient registration systems is required (Knowledge of Epic is an asset)
Proficiency with computers (i.e. Outlook, MS Word)
Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills
Punctuality, reliability, commitment
Strong problem-solving abilities
Ability to be self-directed, to be flexible and to take initiative
Attention to detail and efficient time management
Strong customer service orientation

Full-Time, Permanent (1.0FTE)
This role offers cross-training to work in 2 clinical areas; FTE will be split
This role requires commitment to working Friday days and/or evenings and Saturdays+ 3 Weekdays to equal 35-hr standard work week, some holidays based on rotation
