The role includes the operation of a CMM and the completion of advanced manual inspections with a wide variety of tooling and gauging (Micrometers, calipers, shadow graphs, mold impressions, digital height gauges etc.). The QC inspector will create and complete QA documents and control plans in accordance with the Quality Manual.
The job will involve carrying out CMM Inspection and Manual Inspection of complex machined parts used in the Aerospace and Nuclear industries. A working knowledge of AS 9100 and ISO 9001: 2008, CSA Z299 will be necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work from complicated drawings, sketches, operation sheets and specifications, using standard methods and procedures to perform conventional and CMM inspection.
- Follow established procedures to inspect parts in accordance with customer and source inspector requirements.
- Prepare inspection reports of findings, indicating acceptable items, variant parts requiring corrective work, or unacceptable items requiring Quality Review action.
- Use a variety of precision measuring instruments such as Vernier height gages, bore gauge, micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial protractors, optical comparator, gage blocks, profilometer, chamfer gages etc. to perform linear and angular dimension checks such as length, width, depth, diameter and feature control checks including perpendicularity, flatness, parallelism, concentricity and other checks in conjunction with inspection operations, all within extremely tight tolerances.
- Visually inspect parts and assemblies to ensure conformance with specifications.
EDUCATION
- Grade 12 minimum, prefer post-secondary certificate in a related field
- On the job training certification an asset
EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE
- Must have 5+ years direct experience inspecting machined parts with tight tolerances
- Must be able to work in Canada and a current resident of Canada
- A good knowledge of Shop Math
- Strong CALIPSO and PC-DMIS CMM experience an asset
- High level of knowledge of GD&T
- Able to work under pressure
- Ability to select tools, read blueprints, specifications, manuals and work procedures
- Knowledge of inspecting gears and splines
- Willingness to work overtime hours when required including weekends
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
