Devops Specialist
The evolving DevOps team in the LCBO is helping to drive modernization by taking a collaborative approach to support and transformation of the organization’s tech stack. The team combines DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering principles and methodologies to help with the adaption and maturation of CI/CD and Automation processes, as well as taking a proactive approach to supporting workloads by implementing and managing observability toolsets.

Reporting to the Manager of DevOps, the DevOps Specialist will support cloud application infrastructure, and the configuration and deployment of applications to multiple non-production and production environments. You will also provide support for CI/CD, IaC, and Automation Tooling as well as Observability platforms. You will work under our Sr. DevOps Engineers to deliver reliable, secure technology while taking a proactive approach to incident and defect management. You will collaborate with various IT Operation and Development teams to build IaC and Development pipelines for LCBO’s projects and initiatives as well as provide guidance to other teams on our DevOps intake processes and tooling.
About the Role

Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for various applications across multiple production and non-production environments
-
Use appropriate automation tools and processes to build and configure test environments using Infrastructure as Code practices
-
Collaborate with developers, testers and Release Management to support projects and production releases, adhering to established Change Management standards and processes
-
Ensure application deployments and environment builds adhere to established standards and practices
-
Ensure application deployments and environment builds are compliant with IT/Information Security standards
-
Ensure applications and environments are scalable and resilient, working with developers, IT Operations and Disaster Recovery to ensure DR compliance
-
Support Source Code and DevOps Automation tooling platforms
-
Proactively identify problem areas for all supported workloads and systems by reviewing logging and monitoring platforms and analyzing local logs and services and recommend improvements
-
Ensure application and system logging and monitoring adheres to established standards and practices
-
Build integrations between monitoring and logging platforms with Incident Management Systems, aligning to established ITIL standards
-
Identify system and resource bottlenecks and work with relevant teams to test and tune platforms and systems for optimal performance
-
Ensure Operations Support Centre (OSC) can effectively support systems and platforms by managing and maintaining observability platforms, collaborating with OSC and Service Management to close any gaps on systems with low visibility

Collaborating with test teams to ensure they can monitor system performance during test cycles
-
Provide Level 2 incident support for specific applications and systems assigned to DevOps team, supporting Level 3 teams when required

Provide support on non-prod/project defects, proactively recommending fixes for timely mitigation
-
Proactively debug and tune applications and systems, collaborating with developers, operations, and Release Management to follow established change management processes for implementations/fixes/changes

Create change requests and present change plan at regular CAB meetings

Be available on a rotational 24/7 on-call support schedule for incident escalations

Create and maintain operational runbooks/KB articles

Regularly review support runbooks with OSC team to ensure smooth transition of support workloads

Document any new processes for CI/CD and automation and review with relevant teams

Proactively identify any documentation gaps and KT to relevant teams
-
Participate in project planning to onboard new workloads using relevant automated pipelines, providing effort estimates to PMs and team leads
-
Analyze applications and systems within the DevOps/SRE domain to identify opportunities for better resiliency and efficiency, leveraging automation
-
When required participate in design discussions for projects and new systems/platforms as they pertain to DevOps and SRE
About You
-
Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related area, and/or equivalent work experience
3 years’ proven experience administering and/or implementing solutions that address the following areas:
-
CI/CD and DevOps Practices
-
Configuration management as codes
-
Test automation and Version control
-
Infrastructure engineering as codes including provisioning platform on prem and on cloud
-
Monitoring & alerting
-
Release management
2 years’ experience in the following areas:
-
Cloud computing platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
-
Source control and build/dependency management systems (Jenkins, BitBucket, Maven and Nexus)
-
Configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform)
-
Containers and clustering technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift)
-
Relational and non-relational databases (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, MySQL, Oracle DB, DB2)
-
ELK Stack including ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats etc
-
Monitoring & Logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Solarwinds, Site 24x7)
-
Understanding of application performance, security, and infrastructure fundamentals
-
Strong ability in administrating Linux and Windows systems
-
Strong scripting skills (Shell, Python, Groovy)
-
Ability to quickly learn new platforms, languages, tools, and techniques as needed to meet project requirements.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong attention to detail and quality
Preferred:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related area
-
5+ years total IT experience
-
Expertise with 3 years of DevOps related experience in the following areas or tools:

Azure
-
ELK Stack including ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats etc, and Elasticsearch index configuration.

Kubernetes
-
Terraform
-
Ansible, AWX
-
Hashicorp Vaults
-
Grafana and Prometheus
-
Kafka
