Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia is seeking Stage Managers for our upcoming 2026-2027 touring season. Known for our unique brand of puppetry and storytelling, we are looking for organized, collaborative, and road-ready individuals to bring our productions to audiences across North America.
Position 1: Stage Manager
Production: The Three Little Pigs & Other Tales (TYA Production) Touring Region: Canada and the United States
Contract Dates: September 2026 – April 2027
The Role: Be a part of Mermaid’s new comedic farce! The Three Little Pigs & Other Tales is a reinvented classic about friendship and becoming a hero.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the artistic integrity of the production throughout a multi-month tour.
- Company Management
- Driving Responsibilities
- Manage all technical cues, including lighting, projection, and sound.
- Oversee load-ins and loadouts in a variety of venues professional performing arts spaces.
- Foster a positive, professional environment for the touring cast and crew.
- Act as the primary liaison between the touring company and the home office.
Position 2: Stage Manager
Production: Ocean Blue (New TYA Production)
Touring Region: Canada and the United States
Contract Dates: November 2026 – May 2027
The Role: Be a part of Mermaid’s newest creation! Ocean Blue is our latest TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences) production, exploring themes of biodiversity, powerful storytelling and provocative blacklight puppetry.
Key Responsibilities:

- Manage all technical cues, including lighting, projection, and sound.
- Oversee load-ins and loadouts in a variety of venues professional performing arts spaces.
- Foster a positive, professional environment for the touring cast and crew.
- Act as the primary liaison between the touring company and the home office.
Candidate Requirements
- CAEA Membership a Plus: While CAEA stage managers are ideal, transferable experience on set (film & television) as an Assistant Director (AD) or ASM for theatre who are not yet full Equity members will be considered
- Touring Experience: Proven experience in touring logistics and managing technical elements in diverse venues a plus
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required (experience driving large vehicles/sprinter vans is an asset).
- Travel Documents: Must have a valid passport and be eligible for a P2 Visa (facilitated by the company) for entry into the United States.
- Collaborative Spirit: A proactive, problem-solving attitude and a passion for Theatre for Young Audiences.
