POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of Principal, the First Nation, Metis, & Inuit (FNMI) Graduation Coach provides intensive support to Indigenous learners and their families with the goal of seeing each learner through to graduation towards their own chosen pathways. This position acts as a mentor and advisor to each learner and advocates for them with teachers, school staff, families, and communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ontario High School Diploma or equivalent, as well as a degree or diploma in Social Studies, Social Work, First Nations Family Support, Health Care or related field, or an equivalent experience. Extensive experience working with First Nations, Metis and Inuit students, their families and communities within Northwestern Ontario is required. Knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures, values, ways of knowing and histories. Knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures, values, ways of knowing and histories. Knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues and barriers faced by First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and families. Strong organizational skills, willingness to be flexible and work cooperatively with others. Skills to support and advocate for students and their families in complex social, emotional, behavioural situations. Skills to motivate students, mediate, and resolve conflicts/problems. This position will require a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) or a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) at the employee’s expense.”
