Job description:
We are looking for a couple of compassionate and dedicated Community Support Workers to provide one on one active supervision, support and care for a male client with Developmental Disabilities.
This role is looking for a couple of Community Support Workers that have the ability to maintain calmness under pressure, have high level of awareness for client safety and ability to set boundaries and be consistent with following the behavioral support and safety plan.
The client likes to individual is curious and creative and would like to engage in the community in meaningful ways and experience new things.
Location:
- Vancouver (near Riley Park)
Shifts:
- 9:30 or 10:00am to 2:00 or 2:30pm
- 5 days per week
Duties
- keep the individual physically active - needs to keep moving
- accompany him to do activities in the community such as visit the library, go to the Community Centres, go for coffee or out to lunch, visit the pool or play bingo
- Visit special community events and festivals (ie the PNE)
Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or autism
- Must be comfortable with repetitive questions, anxiety, rigidity, and transitions
- Able to redirect and not argue
- Can recognize early signs of mood escalation, withdrawal, depression and unusual behavior changes
- Able to document concerns objectively and clearly
- Comfortable communicating observations to family in clear manner
- Have seizure awareness
- Have the ability to build a weekly schedule and work alongside Program Manager and family to plan activities
- must have valid Class 4 or 5 drivers license and vehicle; needs to be comfortable driving client to and from events
- First Aid/CPR certification (required)
- Criminal Record Check (required)
