About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established construction and manufacturing organization with approximately 85 employees. They are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the company's day-to-day accounting and administrative functions.
This is a hands-on role suited to an accounting professional who is comfortable taking ownership of the full accounting cycle, month-end and year-end processes, payroll, project-related administration, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will also provide leadership to a small administrative team and help ensure the organization's financial and administrative processes remain accurate, organized, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting

Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and general ledger activities

Prepare and oversee monthly financial statements and month-end reporting

Coordinate year-end accounting processes and work closely with external accountants and advisors

Perform account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and other general accounting functions

Monitor cash flow, receivables, payables, and outstanding accounts

Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and maintained in a timely manner

Assist management with financial analysis, reporting, and decision-making as required
Payroll & Administration

Manage the full payroll process for approximately 85 employees

Ensure payroll remittances, source deductions, and related filings are completed accurately and on time

Oversee payroll-related reporting, documentation, and employee records
-
Provide direction and support to 1–2 office administrators responsible for data entry, payroll support, and general administrative functions

Establish and maintain efficient administrative and accounting procedures

Take ownership of the company's internal accounting and administrative processes
Construction & Project Administration

Support accounting requirements across active construction and manufacturing projects

Manage project-related invoicing, receivables, payables, and supporting documentation

Prepare and coordinate statutory declarations (Stat Decs) and other project documentation

Coordinate project bonding, including required financial information and documentation

Assist with project financial tracking and reporting

Maintain accurate records related to project costs, billings, and commitments
Corporate Compliance & Risk Management

Manage company licensing and renewal requirements

Coordinate corporate insurance policies, renewals, certificates, and related documentation

Maintain organized corporate and financial records

Assist with regulatory, tax, and government reporting requirements

Identify upcoming compliance deadlines and ensure requirements are addressed proactively

Manage and maintain confidential financial, employee, and corporate information
Grants & Other Responsibilities

Research, coordinate, and administer applicable government grants, subsidies, rebates, and funding programs

Prepare required documentation and financial information for applications and reporting

Work with external parties, including accountants, insurers, bonding companies, financial institutions, and government agencies

Identify opportunities to improve accounting and administrative processes

Take on additional financial and administrative responsibilities as the business continues to grow
Qualifications & Experience

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within construction, manufacturing, or a related project-based environment

Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting

Demonstrated experience managing payroll for a mid-sized workforce

Experience with month-end and year-end close processes

Strong accounts payable, accounts receivable, and invoicing experience

Experience with construction accounting and project-related documentation is highly preferred

Familiarity with bonding, insurance, Stat Decs, and licensing requirements is an asset

Experience working with external accountants and supporting year-end processes

Strong proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel

Excellent organizational and time-management skills

Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy

Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both office and field personnel

Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion

Previous experience supervising or mentoring administrative/accounting staff is preferred
