Location: Mississauga, ON | Term: Permanent Full-Time
Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Accounting Specialist plays a pivotal role in overseeing and advancing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. This position is responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, driving process improvements, ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards, and gradually taking on team leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of Canadian accounting experience, a strong command of both AP/AR and financial reporting, and the initiative to lead cross-functional projects.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (40 hours per week, including a 1-hour unpaid lunch)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Salary: $75,000 annually, plus a performance bonus of up to 30% of annual salary

Manage day-to-day accounting operations including journal entries, GL reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close processes

Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reports with commentary and variance analysis

Oversee and improve Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance

Prepare and manage payroll processing in accordance with applicable legislation

Support year-end audits and liaise with external public accountants for the preparation of annual financial statements

Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and all applicable federal and provincial regulatory requirements

Prepare ad-hoc reports and financial analyses as requested by senior management

Oversee GST/HST filing and ensure accurate tax treatment across all transactions

Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) in compliance with applicable Canadian standards and corporate governance requirements

Identify compliance risks and implement corrective measures proactively

Manage inter-company account reconciliations and ensure proper documentation

Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience in Canada (in-house or public accounting firm)

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA designation or in progress is an asset)

Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP/IFRS and tax regulations (GST/HST/CIT)

Demonstrated hands-on experience with full-cycle accounting including AP, AR, payroll, and month-end close

Business-level English proficiency (both written and verbal) - strong communication skills essential

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); SAP (FI module) experience is a significant asset

High level of accuracy, integrity, and accountability with strong attention to detail

Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Experience in internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) design, execution, and documentation

Exposure to budget preparation and financial forecasting

Experience with inter-company accounting in a multi-entity environment
