We are seeking a Project Director to join our team in North Vancouver, BC.

MAINTAINING THE OVERVIEW

The Project Director will be responsible for managing large, high-risk projects or a portfolio of smaller projects with similar collective business impact, with respect to the project specific top and bottom-line targets, quality, and client/staff satisfaction. He/she will have joint responsibility with the Corporate Management Team for achieving the market goals (top line) for COWI’s North American bridge practice.

The incumbent will assist the Vice President, Operations in developing business strategies and the necessary technical capacity and staff resources, as well as, managing and developing subordinate Project Managers in the portfolio or on the project.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Project Management

Pursues, plans and successfully executes assigned projects or projects within your portfolio.
Leads contract review and negotiation, soliciting input as appropriate from Legal Counsel and Vice President, Operations.
Prepares risk screenings and bid submission notes and requests delegation of approval authority from Vice President, Operations.
Completes projects in compliance with the COWI Quality Management System.
Achieves project financial, schedule, quality and client satisfaction objectives.
Ensures appropriate technical oversight / review is provided to the project team.
Captures/develops/shares best practices with relevant network.
Responsible for project closure activities, including preparation of design cost statistics (to inform future estimating), updating of team member resumes and preparation of content for project reference sheets.

Contributes to month-end closure activities including:
Completing project Estimates-to-Complete.
Reviewing and resolving projected project overruns.
Updating long-term planning sheets for projected revenue on projects and pursuits
Ensuring that resource needs for projects are entered into COWI’s resource planning tool and Participating in Project Status Meetings for portfolio projects.

Resource Management

Collaborates with line management on resource planning and maintaining high billability in the region.
Staffs projects with appropriate resources, considering capabilities and personal development goals.
Leads, mentors and develops subordinate Project Managers.
Contributes to the development of Project Management best practices.
Provides feedback on employee performance to employee and to their Head of Section (direct manager) when appropriate.
Contributes to the growth of employee engagement.
Business Development / Key Account Management
Promotes a strong collaborative relationship with clients.
Contributes to Key Account Management activities.
Grows the business with clients, including taking advantage of cross selling opportunities.
Performs other duties as required.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS CREATE VALUE

Engineering degree with post graduate degrees preferred in engineering or professional disciplines.
Minimum 10 years project management experience for large, complex projects and 5 years of line management or project portfolio management experience.
At least 15 years of experience working with major bridge and/or transportation projects.
Strong project management skills and the ability to see projects through from concept to completion within a professional services environment.
Strong leadership skills and proven ability to manage teams.
Strong business acumen coupled with solid technical skills in managing transportation projects.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proven ability to cope with and lead others through complexity, uncertainty and change.
Self-motivated, flexible and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Willingness and ability to travel to suit project needs.
Innovative and creative mind-set.
