We are looking for an experienced North Indian Chef/Cook to join our team at our London, Ontario branch. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of North Indian cuisine and practical experience working with a traditional clay tandoor.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tandoori items such as naan, roti, kulcha, kebabs, paneer tikka, tandoori vegetables and other menu items. Currently, Veg only.
- Prepare authentic North Indian dishes according to established recipes and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain the tandoor safely and efficiently.
- Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, portion size and food quality.
- Complete daily food preparation, cutting, marinating and station setup.
- Monitor food inventory and inform management when supplies need to be ordered.
- Maintain proper food storage, labelling, rotation and temperature controls.
- Follow food safety, sanitation and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Keep the kitchen, tandoor station, equipment and preparation areas clean and organized.
- Work efficiently during busy lunch, dinner, weekend and holiday shifts.
- Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure orders are prepared accurately and on time.
- Minimize food waste and follow portion-control standards.
- Assist with receiving and inspecting food deliveries when required.
- Support kitchen opening and closing duties.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience as a North Indian Chef, Cook or Tandoor Cook.
- Practical working knowledge and experience operating a clay tandoor.
- Strong knowledge of North Indian cooking techniques, spices, marinades and gravies.
- Ability to prepare naan and other tandoor breads independently during busy times.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Good time-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift kitchen supplies when required.
- Food Handler Certification is preferred.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled.
