Faculty of Health Sciences
As part of an expansion of its research and teaching programs in food and nutrition sciences, the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position in Nutrition, management, leadership, and food provision.

The School of Nutrition Sciences provides French and English education across the spectrum of food and nutrition sciences to enable students be leaders in health promotion through expertise in food and nutrition, nutrition care, public health nutrition, management and leadership, communication and collaboration, professionalism and ethics, as well as safe and healthy food production and service in public and private sector institutions. Programs include a variety of experiential learning activities to practice theoretical concept and build skills.
Professors in the School are conducting research on a broad range of topics related to food and nutrition across the lifespan, from the impact of maternal and infant nutrition on development to how food and diet influence the development of chronic diseases later in life. Topics also include the impact of food composition and processing on the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of nutrients and bioactive compounds. They are also investigating the impact of foods and diets on the composition and function of the human microbiome and how that impacts gut health, mental health, and other health outcomes.
The successful candidate will have expertise related to food and nutrition, management and leadership, safe and healthy food production, service, and supply in public and private sector institutions. He or she will prepare our students for careers as managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs in institutions responsible for the food supply, nutrition, and health of people of all ages, including the aging.
Research interests may include:
Optimal management of food, nutrition, and health services, including evaluation of service and product quality, resources, losses, profits, and costs,
Use and development of technologies for food and nutrition related management,
Evaluating the management of food service systems in a variety of settings (e.g., long-term care, hospitals, schools, daycares, detention facilities),
Identifying best practices in healthy and safe food supply management and sustainable food,
Study of food systems, including food environments and their effects on the nutritional health of individuals,
Needs assessment, planning, management, and evaluation of the community food supply to support health,
Managing risk, change and emergencies, including crises, in relation to the food supply,
Using leadership to promote health through food and nutrition; and developing management and leadership competencies related to nutrition.
The research community at the University of Ottawa will allow the researcher to integrate into interdisciplinary networks with researchers from health, medical, sociology, psychology, and other fields. The LIFE Research Institute and the Population Health PhD program, which are administratively hosted by the Faculty of Health Sciences are well aligned with the research direction of the successful candidate.
Because food security and nutrition-related health conditions disproportionately impact disadvantaged communities and Indigenous and minority populations have unique challenges regarding food sovereignty and food security, preference will be given to Indigenous and visible minority candidates.
Title of the position: Assistant or associate professor level, in nutrition, management, leadership, and food provision.
Duties/responsibilities: The functions of a member of the academic staff include: a) teaching activities at the undergraduate and graduate level; b) scholarly activities involving a research program; c) activities related to service to the School, Faculty, and University community; d) supervision of undergraduate and graduate research students, including direction of thesis projects.
Terms: Tenure-track position.
Salary: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $88,735 and for an Associate Professor starts at $98,019.

Ph.D. in Nutrition or a related field.
Postdoctoral experience in nutrition, management, leadership, food provision or a related field is an asset.
Registration to the College of Dietitians of Ontario or the college of dietitians of another Canadian province with the capacity to transfer registration in Ontario.
Membership with Dietitians of Canada or eligibility to join.
Demonstrated research excellence in a nutrition field related to management and leadership,
Experience in university teaching and training at the undergraduate level,
Demonstrated knowledge of teaching and training at the graduate level,
Solid experience in interdisciplinary collaboration,
Ability to communicate and teach effectively in English and French, both orally and in writing.
