Senior Telecom (Collaboration) Engineer
How does the role impact the organization?
Raymond James Ltd. is seeking a qualified Senior Telecom Engineer to work in our Burnaby, or Vancouver BC office.
Under the direction of IT Management, and Team leads, the Senior Telecom Engineer will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations, technical design, planning, and implementation of the advanced telecommunications infrastructure within the Raymond James Ltd environment. This includes supporting Zoom Cloud solutions (UCaaS) as well as hosted and Complex On-Premise Cisco solutions as well as Speakerbus Trade Desk system. The primary focus of this role will be to support the Telecommunications’ environment at Raymond James Ltd and its managed independent offices.
As a Senior Telecom engineer you will be part of a highly skilled Networks operations team where your responsibilities include deploying, managing and supporting all aspects of the Voice and Video infrastructure used by our clients and offices. A strong understanding of LAN, WAN technologies including QoS , DNS, DHCP and firewall fundamentals is required. The Telecom team is also responsible for Facility Infrastructure within the Co-Location Data Centers and Offices across Canada.
The IT Department at Raymond James Ltd provides a Service First focused environment for our client base.
The candidate must be a self-motivated strategic thinker who can work closely with other IT groups as a technical resource on assigned projects.
What will your role be responsible for?
- Voice and Video Architecture
- Zoom cloud (UCaaS) telephony and video.
- Support, provision and troubleshoot complex Cisco telephony and video environment.
- Experience configuring Cisco Video Conference solutions both On Premise and Cloud based required.
- Manage security of cloud and on-premises voice and video systems
- Ability to gather and troubleshoot complex issues using log files and network traces.
- Configuration, coordination and deployment of Cisco and Poly video conference hardware and associated telecom systems.
- Work with Network, Systems and InfoSec teams in planning and designing of voice and video infrastructure and deployments.
- Participate in client discussions during all phases of development.
- Provide direction for Technology Operations teams on current and emerging technologies.
- Bring technical knowledge from external sources and incorporates those ideas into IT.
- Recommend technical standards that include future proposed standards that require long range planning.
- Assist in a technical lead role for business projects at Raymond James Ltd.
- Document procedures, processes and operational tasks; and
- Provide oral and written presentations and Visio documents on current and emerging technologies to educate key stakeholders on technical issues.
- Network & Telecom Operations
- Provide timely support, analysis and resolution for related problems.
- Ensure timely delivery of technology solutions, which meet the quality, performance, service, and functional requirements of internal and external customers through accurate needs analysis, effective planning and thorough testing.
- Contribute to the design, configuration and maintenance of the networking, security firewalls, and the operating systems running on these platforms as it relates to your position.
- Contribute to the operations and maintenance, including pro-active support, of hardware, software, network and communications systems as it relates to your position; and
- Contribute to the security of network and data resources.

- Evaluate current and emerging technologies and introduce technical solutions that address business and technical issues.
- Contribute to the Technology Road Map planning; and
- Contribute to the annual project planning requirements by providing estimates and plans for project estimating purposes.
- Participate as team member or work package leader on projects involving all voice, video and infrastructure changes or projects.
- Contribute to the development and assignment of project budgets.
- Contribute to the planning, installation and upgrade of network and security platforms.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of
- Experience with Zoom phone and video provisioning and UCaaS solutions.
- Experience with Cisco UCS hardware and VMWare.
- Experience with Cisco Expressway, MRA, Jabber Mobile and WebEx for Windows.
- Experience with Certificates and SSO provisioning and an asset.
- Experience with the use of the Cisco WebEx Control Hub and connectors required, knowledge and use of Poly and Zoom portals an asset.
- Experience in Trade Desk turret systems (Speakerbus/IPC) and voice recording systems would be an asset.
- NICE NTR and CTI Voice recording systems
- Knowledge and experience with Panorama Firewall technologies, methodologies and troubleshooting an asset; and
- Familiarity in network design (Servers, Firewalls, Protocols, Topologies), TCP/IP protocol suite, ARP, routing, VRF, switching, spanning-tree, network security, QoS, DHCP, DNS etc including Knowledge of routing protocols including BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, IGRP, RIP and Multicast.
Skill in
- Complex large-scale projects involving cross functional teams.

- Expert experience with Voice and Video platforms
- Understanding of Telephony and Video protocols is mandatory including (voice and video signaling, audio codecs, sip, pri/bri, multicast)
- Familiarity and experience with a CAB process.
- Professional Knowledge: Demonstrate a satisfactory level of professional skill, or knowledge, in position-related areas; remain current with developments and trends in areas of expertise.
- Extensive experience with Information Technology techniques and methodologies.
- Excellent documentation skills including complex Visio diagrams.
- Extensive experience with Information Technology techniques and methodologies.
- Experience in working in a project management environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
- Strong organizational skills.
- Problem solving using effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; recommend or take action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.
Educational/Previous Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in large-scale telecommunications environments.
- Strong background in Zoom Video and Phone migrations and deployment
- Understanding of Voice and Video protocols and services is mandatory including (signaling, audio codecs, sip, pri/bri, multicast); and
- Completion of a Master’s degree is a definite asset.
Licenses/Certifications
- Cisco CCIE Collaboration
- Cisco Routing and Switching - preferred.
- Palo Alto (PCCET/PCNSA/PCNSE)
- ITIL certification is preferred.

Salary Range: BC (based on Education, Work Experience, etc) $105,000-115,000 in addition to competitive performance bonuses/incentives.
