Overview:
Responsible for the profit and loss contribution of the Aggregates Product Line in the Eastern Ontario Aggregates unit while upholding all company commitments, and executing a culture that holds health & safety as a core value. Based in Ottawa, the successful candidate would be expected to execute business strategy, operational and commercial business plans, and provide leadership to all organizational resources within the designated market area. Areas of responsibility include safety, sales, marketing, efficient operations/production, quality control, sustainability, innovation and environmental compliance as well as strategic direction for the market area (competitive positioning, reserves, etc). The incumbent will proactively engage the support of the functional leaders and others to secure the long-term growth vision for the market area. He/she also ensures that all products and services that touch the customer meet Lafarge ECAN standards and are provided in the most efficient and effective manner. Overall he/she provides leadership and coaching to develop a performance culture and teams that will deliver results through implementation of the Lafarge strategy.
Responsibilities:
Safety:
Leads the business unit with the utmost focus on health & safety; proactively implements Lafarge ECAN best practices and complies with Group requirements.
Engages with all levels of employees in this regard and ensures personnel are actively seeking out real time solutions to identified risks.
Personally participates in and pushes corrective actions for health and safety audits.
Leadership:
Provides leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to stretch and challenge staff to deliver results & strengthen relationships within the team, functional units, and customers.
Leads team in strategic planning, progress plans, business development activities and identifying competitive landscape & sales intelligence.
Ensures team has a clear vision and strategy so they all move in the same direction and execute on the progress plans to maximize results.
Conducts regular meetings with clear agendas and priorities. Communicates company initiatives and pursues best practices.
Tracks team progress/achievements through regular interaction, including but not limited to joint customer visits, plant inspections etc.
Works closely with management and staff to develop a professional approach to managing the business.
Identifies underperformance and establishes corrective action; Selects, hires, trains and terminates as required.
Development of staff and creation of a collaborative and effective work environment.
Operations Strategy:
Gives ultimate direction and oversight for the production of our products at the plant.
Implements best practices, processes and tools to ensure plant activities are optimized and costs are best in class.
Works in conjunction with Performance Directors and Operations staff on the Lafarge ECAN maintenance and delivery programs to maximize efficiencies on both production and delivery.
Reviews financial statements, activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.
Involved in the negotiation of local union contracts and is responsible for overall harmony in Labour Relations.
Involved in the safety measures, delivery improvements and upkeep of applicable delivery models.
Sales, logistics & Customer Focus:
Oversees the implementation of effective Sales and logistics processes and tools to create structure, proactive planning and accountability in the sales process.
Respects and implements the ECAN Price Margin Management (PMM) process including respecting authority levels.
Records and signs off all contracts above the local set thresholds
Use Salesforce.Com to ensure compliance with the PMM and quoting processes, ensures that sales personnel use the system.
Achieve annual EBITDA target.
Accountable for high level involvement with local key accounts.
Oversees the bidding process on large scale projects in accordance with the PMM and Sales Policy.
Ensures accurate sales records including orders won and lost, backlogs and forecasts.
Is an active member of the larger ECAN Senior GM team, contributes proactively towards the greater goals of the business, and promotes collaboration among peers to maximize the total value to ECAN.
Quality Control:
Responsible for working with QC ensuring the production of high quality product
Working with Director of Quality, oversees local QC function ensuring implementation of Lafarge ECAN and industry best practices designed to provide the best quality product to our customers.
Mitigates and manages the legal aspect of all quality incidents.
Understands the value of quality and ensures processes are in place to provide a quality product to our customers.
Liaison with suppliers and haulers in order to source out the right strategic partners in the market and obtain favourable market pricing.
Management of raw materials to ensure a balance between cost optimisation and meeting customer needs.
Strategy & Planning:
Effectively utilizes KPIs, Performance Efficiency Reviews, financial statements and operational reports to track performance, establish effective action plans and continuously improve the operations.
Provide in a timely manner information to functional teams and VPs regarding market share, backlog, competitor intel and market trends to accurately create overall budget.
Maintains a collaborative relationship with other Product Lines ensuring a synergy which achieves a strategic and competitive edge using the Aggregate operating models.
Improves margins through the right combination of product, services, strategic placement and cost reduction.
Effectively runs and forecasts the profit/loss statements of two separate and distinct brands.

Qualifications:
Education & Work Experience:
Masters in Business, Finance or Undergraduate degree in Business or Engineering preferred, Geological sciences
Minimum of 7-10 years of Aggregates experience
Top of the class individual with potential to progress
Experience working in the Eastern Ontario Area would be an asset
