Job Summary:
As a Class 1 Truck Driver at Michell Excavating, you will be an essential part of our construction operations team, ensuring materials and equipment are transported safely and efficiently across various project sites. You will be responsible for operating trucks and trailers, maintaining and adhering to all safety regulations. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, punctuality, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transports equipment and/or material, such as excavators, pipe, concrete, gravel, sand, fill, dirt, and rock, to and from suppliers and job sites in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
- Reports any maintenance or safety issues to management.
- Secures and covers loads as necessary to prevent debris from falling out during transportation.
- Follows all safety procedures and regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with weight restrictions.
- Communicates with the dispatcher regularly to receive instructions about pick-up and delivery times, routes, and any other important information related to the delivery. As well as providing updates on progress, report any issues or delays, and coordinate with the dispatcher and other drivers as needed.
- Performs daily checks of diffs, axle seals, water, oil, and coolant levels, and regularly completes greasing.
- Maintains a clean and organized vehicle and work area.
- Adheres to all applicable laws and regulations governing the transportation of materials.
Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Class 1 commercial driver's license and have a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a commercial truck driver with experience in driving truck and trailer combos including the following : Truck and quad, transfers and pup trailers, tilt trailers and low-beds
- Experience preferably in the transportation of gravel, sand, fill, dirt, or rock.
- In-depth understanding of safe practices for loading, unloading, and transporting materials.
- Strong communication abilities and a proven track record of effective teamwork.
- Keen attention to detail with a high commitment to upholding safety standards.
