Leggat Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC is seeking an experienced Used Car Manager to lead and grow our pre-owned vehicle operation. This is a key leadership position responsible for inventory acquisition, pricing strategy, sales performance, merchandising, team development, and profitability. The successful candidate will be accountable for all aspects of the used vehicle department, ensuring inventory levels, sales performance, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence meet or exceed dealership objectives.
Compensation: $130,000 to $160,000 on target earnings through base salary, commission, and bonus pay structure
Schedule: Full-Time leadership position including rotational Saturdays
The Role
As Used Car Manager, you will oversee the entire pre-owned vehicle operation, working closely with Sales, Service, Finance, Marketing, and the Dealer Group to maximize opportunities and profitability. You will lead by example, coach and develop staff, and ensure processes are executed consistently while maintaining a strong focus on customer experience
What You'll Do
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop the sales team through daily training, accountability, and performance management.
- Establish and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales objectives.
- Achieve dealership trade penetration objectives of 60% on new vehicle sales and 35% on used vehicle sales.
- Maintain acquisition targets through trades, service drive opportunities, direct purchases, lease maturities, and external sourcing channels.
- Develop and maintain a customer Want List program to proactively source inventory based on customer demand.
- Review inventory pricing daily to ensure market competitiveness and maximize profitability.
- Conduct daily auction reviews and identify acquisition opportunities that align with dealership inventory needs.
- Utilize group inventory resources and actively work the Leggat Auto Group inventory network to locate and secure vehicles.
- Monitor and manage all incoming e-leads daily, ensuring prompt response times, follow-up compliance, and conversion performance.
- Review CRM activity daily and hold team members accountable to established processes.
- Work closely with the sales team in the Service Drive daily to identify appraisal opportunities and generate acquisitions.
- Ensure every appraisal is properly completed using dealership tools and market data.
- Manage inventory aging and establish action plans for vehicles exceeding aging targets.
- Monitor gross profit performance and inventory turn objectives.
- Oversee merchandising standards including photos, descriptions, online listings, and vehicle presentation.
- Ensure all inventory is appropriately reconditioned and frontline ready.
- Manage reconditioning processes with a target turnaround time of 48 hours from acquisition to frontline readiness whenever operationally possible.
- Collaborate with Service and Parts departments to prioritize inventory flow and minimize downtime.
- Handle escalated customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Review departmental performance regularly with the General Manager and implement action plans where required.
- Ensure full utilization of CRM, DMS, inventory management, desking, and appraisal tools.
- Foster a positive culture focused on accountability, teamwork, customer experience, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring
- Proven experience managing a high-volume used vehicle operation.
- Minimum 3 years automotive management experience.
- Valid OMVIC License.
- Strong understanding of inventory management, market pricing, acquisitions, auctions, and vehicle merchandising.
- Experience with CRM, DMS, appraisal, and inventory management systems.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities.
- Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of dealership financials and profitability metrics.
