We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Warehouse Operations Manager to lead our warehouse team, drive operational excellence, and foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Position Summary
The Warehouse Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of all warehouse activities.
This individual will oversee receiving, put-away, inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping, sanitation, customer service, labour planning, and warehouse performance while ensuring the highest standards of safety, inventory accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
The successful candidate is expected to lead from the warehouse floor, coach employees, solve operational challenges proactively, and continuously improve warehouse performance through strong leadership and data-driven decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Lead all daily warehouse operations, including receiving, put-away, inventory control, order picking, staging, shipping, sanitation, and housekeeping.
- Ensure all customer orders are processed accurately and shipped on time.
- Develop daily operational plans based on inbound and outbound volumes.
- Monitor workflow throughout each shift and adjust labour resources as required.
- Ensure smooth communication between warehouse, transportation, and customer service teams.
- Conduct daily operational meetings to establish priorities and review performance.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop warehouse employees, team leads, and supervisors.
- Build a culture focused on accountability, teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance evaluations and establish measurable employee goals.
- Address performance concerns promptly through coaching and corrective action when required.
- Identify training opportunities and develop future warehouse leaders.
- Maintain staffing levels to support operational requirements.
Customer Service
- Ensure customer orders are fulfilled accurately and on time.
- Maintain excellent service levels for all warehouse customers.
- Resolve operational issues quickly while maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Work closely with Customer Service Representatives to meet customer expectations.
- Support customer audits and operational reviews.
Inventory Management
- Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts and inventory audits.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all inventory transactions are completed accurately.
- Maintain product traceability and inventory integrity.
- Drive continuous improvement in inventory control processes.
Warehouse Systems & Technology
- Ensure disciplined use of the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Monitor warehouse performance through operational KPIs and reports.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel and operational reporting tools to analyze productivity and identify improvement opportunities.
- Experience using Extensiv WMS is considered a strong asset.
Labour Planning
- Develop labour plans that maximize productivity while controlling labour costs.
- Monitor overtime and staffing requirements.
- Schedule employees based on operational demand.
- Improve labour efficiency through better planning and workflow management.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation.
- Maintain compliance with HACCP, GMP, SQF, and company food safety policies.
- Conduct regular warehouse safety inspections.
- Investigate workplace incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Promote a safe workplace through leadership and employee engagement.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve warehouse productivity and reduce operating costs.
- Improve warehouse layout, material flow, and space utilization.
- Implement process improvements that enhance customer service and operational efficiency.
- Drive a culture focused on measurable results and continuous improvement.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The Warehouse Operations Manager will be evaluated on measurable operational performance, including:
- Customer satisfaction
- On-time order fulfillment
- Inventory accuracy

- Labour productivity
- Labour cost control
- Receiving productivity
- Picking productivity
- Dock turnaround times
- Warehouse housekeeping standards

Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of warehouse leadership experience.
- Minimum 3 years managing warehouse teams of 20 or more employees.
- Experience within a food-grade warehouse, distribution centre, or 3PL operation is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing inventory, shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations.
- Strong leadership and coaching abilities.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS); Extensiv WMS experience is considered an asset.
- Experience using warehouse performance metrics and KPIs to improve operations.
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or Operations Management is considered an asset.
