REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE (RPN) - CASUAL

Hourly Rate: $28.85 - $31.25
Shifts typically fall between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The Organization
The employer for this position is Canadian Religious Stewardship (CRS), a not-for-profit charitable organization established by Catholic Religious Institutes from across Canada. CRS is assisting Catholic Religious Sisters and Priests across Canada. This position will be based at Presentation Manor for Seniors in Scarborough Ontario.
The Sisters and Priests live together in community with other religious and lay persons in independent, assisted living, and memory care at Presentation Manor for Seniors and at Providence Health Care.
The Position
As a casual CRS Registered Practical Nurse, reporting to the CRS Care & Operations Manager, you will provide planned, resident/patient centered health and social care in accordance with the provincial standards and the needs of the various congregations. You will liaise with Allied Health Professionals to support members of the Religious congregations, who primarily reside at Presentation Manor for Seniors.
This position requires a deep sense of commitment, responsibility and readiness to be available for urgent situations as they arise.
This is a casual position with no guarantee of hours. Hours of work will be scheduled on an as-needed basis, normally falling within the core hours of 7 am to 7 pm.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to the residents and congregations we serve, as part of the CRS Health Care team, working collaboratively with other CRS staff and the Presentation Manor Director of Care and Health Care team. While we play an essential role in care coordination, final decisions for residents living at Presentation Manor are made by their Director of Care
- Work in partnership with each member of the Religious congregations and the Presentation Manor and CRS care teams to support individual care and service plans aligned with identified priorities and desired outcomes, applying a person-centered approach as a member of the CRS team.
- Complete and ensure residents’ clinical care assessments, care/service plans, and documentation are accurate and up to date, communicate changes as required, and implement and evaluate the effectiveness of care/service plans, making adjustments as needed.
- Provide direct resident care and medication/treatment administration and document care in compliance with regulatory standards, policies and procedures
- Process orders, safe keep all drugs and narcotics, and administer medications in compliance with regulatory requirements, scope of practice, and established policies and procedures.
- Plan, coordinate, manage & evaluate the resident's care plan working with the resident/substitute decision maker, physicians, nursing & interdisciplinary team and contracted service providers
- Coordinate nursing team's resident care assignments to ensure efficient and timely delivery of services to residents
- Respond to and manage significant changes in resident's condition and or medical emergencies; provide emergency first aid
- Teach, delegate to, and direct unregulated care providers
- Respond to residents concerns and ensure appropriate action taken and or concern communicated to the Care & Operations Manager and other departments
- Follow and assist the Care & Operations Manager in the coordination, implementation and monitoring of Infection Prevention and Control, Health and Safety and Clinical Programs and Quality/Safety Plans
- Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity
- Ensure regular visits to Religious
- Accompany Religious to medical appointments, medical specialists, including Emergency Department visits as required
- Complete other duties as required by the CRS Care & Operations Manager
Skills, Abilities, Knowledge
- Exceptional planning, time management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively and independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to manage multiple parallel activities
- Excellent judgment in serving the needs of clients including diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and/or confidential issues
- Ability to provide (informal) leadership and support to PSWs and Care Companions as part of the collaborative care team.
- Intermediate knowledge of Google Workspace and/or MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Publisher)
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills
- Advanced listening and facilitation skills
- Outstanding relationship building skills
- Demonstrated sound clinical knowledge
Requirements
- Certification of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- At least 1 to 2 years of experience providing care to seniors in a retirement residence, long-term care, community-based, or hospital setting.
- Knowledge of and ability to navigate within the Ontario health care system
- Successful completion of RPN medication administration course or equivalent
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Level C certificate and First Aid certification
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check

The candidate will work out of the CRS office at Presentation Manor for Seniors in Scarborough.
