Role Overview
The Service Foreman is a working field leader responsible primarily for leading and performing commercial roofing service work throughout the Golden Horseshoe, GTA and Southwestern Ontario regions.
This includes leak investigations, emergency repairs, scheduled repairs, preventative maintenance, coatings, small projects and other service-related work. The Foreman is responsible for assessing roofing issues, determining appropriate repair solutions, completing high-quality work, documenting findings and communicating professionally with clients and the Stybek team.
While service is the primary responsibility of this position, workload naturally fluctuates throughout the year. During periods when service demand is lower, the Service Foreman will support Stybek's production operations on larger reroofing and new construction projects. This may include working as part of a production crew or taking on field leadership responsibilities depending on the project and operational needs.
This is a hands-on position for an experienced commercial roofer who is equally comfortable troubleshooting a difficult leak, completing a repair, leading a small crew and contributing to a larger roofing project when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform commercial roofing service calls, leak investigations, repairs, maintenance and coatings
- Diagnose roofing deficiencies and determine appropriate repair methods
- Lead service technicians and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to Stybek standards
- Complete clear documentation of service work, including photos, findings, repairs completed, materials used and recommendations
- Communicate professionally with clients while on site and explain findings when required
- Coordinate daily work with the Service and Operations teams
- Support production crews on reroofing and new construction projects during periods of lower service demand
- Lead or assist with production work based on project requirements, scheduling and experience
- Install and repair commercial roofing systems including single-ply membranes, torch-applied and cold-applied modified bitumen, and BUR
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards
- Maintain safe, clean and organized work areas
- Ensure crew members follow company safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Mentor and support roofing technicians and less experienced crew members
- Identify required materials, equipment and tools before and during work
- Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment used by the service crew
- Uphold Stybek's standards for workmanship, professionalism and client service
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of commercial flat roofing experience
- Proven experience working in ICI roofing environments
- Experience leading a roofing crew, service crew or acting as a lead hand
- Strong troubleshooting and leak investigation skills
- Proficiency with commercial flat roofing systems, including single-ply membranes, modified bitumen and BUR
- Ability to complete commercial roof repairs independently and determine appropriate repair solutions in the field
- Strong understanding of commercial roofing installation standards and safety requirements
- Ability to read scopes of work and understand project requirements
- Strong communication, organization and leadership skills
- Comfortable using mobile technology to document work, upload photos and complete service reports
- Valid Working at Heights certification
- Valid driver's licence with a clean driving abstract
- Ability and willingness to support larger production projects when operationally required
Experience
- Commercial roofing: 5 years required
- Commercial roofing crew leadership: preferred
- BUR: 2 years preferred
- Single-ply roofing: 2 years preferred
- Modified bitumen: 2 years preferred
