Position Scope:
The Production Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing all aspects of manufacturing operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality products. This role provides leadership to production teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures operational performance meets customer, quality, safety, and financial objectives. The Production Manager collaborates closely with Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Logistics teams to deliver production targets while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Lead daily production operations to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
- Develop and implement production schedules that align with customer demand and business objectives.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including throughput, efficiency, downtime, scrap, quality, and labour utilization.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, process optimization, waste reduction, and cost savings.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead, coach, and develop production supervisors and frontline employees to build a high-performing team culture.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, employee development discussions, and succession planning activities.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure products consistently meet customer and regulatory standards.
- Partner with Maintenance teams to maximize equipment uptime and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Coordinate with Supply Chain and Planning teams to ensure material availability and production readiness.
- Investigate production, quality, and safety issues and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Manage departmental budgets, labour costs, and resource allocation to meet financial targets.
- Champion operational excellence methodologies including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or other continuous improvement programs.
- Prepare and present operational reports, production metrics, and performance updates to senior leadership.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, production planning, and process improvement methodologies.
- Proven leadership ability with experience managing supervisors and production teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, and operational excellence principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret production data and identify improvement opportunities.
- Experience managing KPIs, budgets, labour planning, and operational performance metrics.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to build effective relationships across operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, supply chain, and senior leadership teams.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and manufacturing reporting tools.
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressive manufacturing experience, including leadership responsibility within a production environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams, production schedules, labour planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience in manufacturing sectors such as food production, consumer packaged goods, automotive, industrial, building products, pharmaceuticals, or related industries is considered an asset.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, PMP, or similar operational excellence certifications are considered an asset.
- Proven track record of improving productivity, quality, safety, and operational performance in a manufacturing setting.
