PROGRAM KITCHEN COORDINATOR – Management
7-month Part Time contract 24 – 28 hours per week
Yonge Eglinton Community Centre (Centre) is a vibrant community centre that has been serving as a meeting place for people of all ages in our mid-town neighbourhood for 50 years. The Centre provides a range of high-quality programs and services, and community special events, targeted to families with children and older adults. The Centre is an agency of the City of Toronto with a volunteer Board of Management.
PURPOSE: To support and coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of our Cooking Connections Intergenerational Kitchen program for Older Adults, EarlyON and After School programs.
REPORTS TO: Program Manager
EDUCATION & TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS: Post-secondary education in a discipline relevant to job functions (e.g. culinary arts, nutrition management and food services). Excellent program management, planning, organizational and implementation skills. Current CPR/first aid training; satisfactory Police Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Check. Enthusiasm and genuine enjoyment of older adults and children and families; energetic team player; sensitivity to issues of cultural, linguistic, social and economic diversity; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experience working with volunteers considered an asset.
RATE OF PAY: City Wage Grade 4 $42,951 - $53,290 per year, pro-rated based on 24 hours per week (FTE $62,637 - $77,715).
HOURS OF WORK: 24-28 hours per week. Core program hours are scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Additional hours will be scheduled flexibly throughout the week to support program planning, purchasing, food preparation, administrative responsibilities and special events. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding programs.
● Conducts research of developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
● Provides input into and administers assigned budget.
● Participates as an active member of the Centre’s management team helping to ensure that the programs and services achieve the Centre’s mandate, goals, and objectives.
● Supports the development, implementation, enhancement and use of Centre systems and tools to facilitate projects, and organizational planning and performance.
● Provides oversight to unionized positions, volunteers (e.g., cooking), and placement students.
● Supervises unionized positions.
● Develops volunteer job profiles and maintains participation evaluation/statistics incorporating expectations from the Entente Foundation. Develops and maintains project data tracking tools/systems.
● Coordinate and oversee, with unionized staff and volunteers, three weekly intergenerational cooking programs connecting Older Adult, EarlyON and School-Based participants
● Develop simple, accessible recipes and hands-on cooking activities suitable for Older Adults, children and families, incorporating nutritional best practices such as Brain Health Food Guide and Canada’s Food Guide.
● Supervise program coordinators to integrate cooking activities into existing programs and support kitchen-based programming.
● Coordinate program logistics including ingredient purchasing, preparation, food storage and kitchen set-up/clean-up.
● Prepares information summaries, reports and status updates.
● Supports project partnership building and manages partner relationships and day-to-day interactions, ensuring effective communications with partners and stakeholders.
● Conducts broad research and analysis taking into consideration organizational and City of Toronto policy, legislation, risk management and relevant best practices.
● Coordinates and attends program meetings, and prepares agendas and minutes as needed.
● Represents Yonge Eglinton Community Centre on various project and community committees and networks.
● Assists in coordinating and carrying out agency communications, including drafting social media posts, newsletter articles and other communications materials.
● Develops materials for successful grant, corporate funding and sponsorship applications and proposals.
● Ensures project compliance with applicable legislation including but not limited to Health and Safety, Collective Agreements, Agency and City of Toronto Human Resources policies, MFIPPA, etc.
