Position Summary
The Regional Programs Manager – North, Prairies, & West is a key member of our Fora team. They must be deeply committed to the vision outlined in Fora’s Strategic Plan. They should be eager to play a significant role in our efforts to promote the full participation of young women and gender-marginalized youth in decision-making spaces, and to challenge the status quo. The Regional Programs Manager leads in the strategy and implementation of the exciting expansion of our Rise on Boards programs to new communities, with a special focus on expanding our reach to non-profit governance boards across the North, Prairies, and Western Canada, particularly in rural and remote communities.
The Rise on Boards and Rise on Boards+ programs work to build more equitable and inclusive boardrooms across Canada. Since 2017, Fora’s Rise on Boards program (formerly Girls on Boards) has trained and placed 170 emerging leaders from a range of backgrounds and experiences at the board table for the first time. Prior to their board appointment, Young Directors receive in-depth training in governance and leadership from expert facilitators and are supported by a board mentor and volunteer coach throughout their one-year board placement.
In response to both the demand and impact of our Rise on Boards program, Rise on Boards+ was launched as a scaled-up pilot project in 2023. Rise on Boards+ allows us to reach even more exceptional young changemakers by offering self-paced, virtual leadership and governance training, networking and mentorship opportunities, and access to a directory of non-profit boards interested in welcoming them to decision-making tables.
Crucial to the Rise on Boards programs, is ensuring that boards themselves are ready to take on Young Directors in a safe space that welcomes diverse perspectives and experiences. Rise on Boards programs work with boards to provide board equity training and resources.
The Regional Programs Manager will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining partnerships with northern, rural, and remote communities, program participants, and non-profit boards. A critical aspect of this position involves understanding and respecting the cultural sensitivities of partner organizations and communities as we work to adapt and enhance our existing program materials in collaboration with community members.
