Job Description: Master Team Trainer – Edo Japan Franchise
Position Overview
The Master Team Trainer is a key leadership role within the Edo Japan franchise team. This position is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining high standards of training for all team members, ensuring consistent execution of brand standards, exceptional customer service, food quality, and operational efficiency across the restaurant. As the "master" trainer, you will mentor new hires, upskill existing staff, and support the leadership team in building a high-performing, engaged workforce that delivers the authentic Edo Japan experience—"Masters of the Grill."
Location: Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia (or other franchise locations as needed)
Reports To: Restaurant Manager / Franchise Owner

Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate + performance bonuses (based on training outcomes, team performance, and store metrics)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Deliver Training Programs Design, update, and conduct comprehensive onboarding and ongoing training for all positions (cashier, cook, prep, customer service, etc.) following Edo Japan’s brand standards, recipes, food safety protocols, and customer service excellence guidelines.
- Hands-On Skill Development Provide on-the-floor coaching, demonstration, and feedback for grill operations (teppanyaki-style cooking), menu item preparation, portion control, presentation, and speed of service.
- Team Performance & Certification Evaluate team member performance through observations, tests, and certifications. Track training progress and maintain detailed records of certifications, retraining needs, and skill matrices.
- New Restaurant Openings & Support Assist with training for new team members during restaurant openings, expansions, or high-volume periods. May travel occasionally to support other franchise locations.
- Continuous Improvement Identify training gaps, recommend improvements to training materials, and collaborate with management on initiatives to reduce turnover, improve service times, and boost guest satisfaction scores.
- Compliance & Safety Ensure all training incorporates food safety (HACCP), workplace health & safety, sanitation standards, and Edo Japan operational procedures. Lead by example in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Mentorship & Culture Foster a positive team culture by mentoring staff, recognizing achievements, and promoting career growth within the Edo Japan franchise system.
- Administrative Duties Prepare training schedules, reports, and documentation. Assist management with performance reviews related to training outcomes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience Minimum 2 years in a restaurant training, supervisory, or lead role (fast-casual or QSR preferred). Prior Edo Japan or similar Japanese/Asian cuisine experience is a strong asset.
- Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional communication, coaching, and leadership skills
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, grill operations, and customer service
- Ability to train effectively across diverse learning styles and experience levels
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities
- High energy, positive attitude, and passion for team development
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) or similar tools for training documentation
- Availability Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays to support peak business times and training sessions.
- Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Food Safety Certification (e.g., FOODSAFE) and WHMIS preferred or to be obtained.
