We have an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Mining Engineer to join our Centerra Corporate team. This is a hybrid position out of our Toronto, ON office.
Reporting to the Vice President, Technical Services, the position of Corporate Mining Engineer is responsible for supporting and developing mine design and strategic mine planning to support safe, sustainable, and profitable mining operations. Additionally, this position will support both open pit and underground mining projects, optimized life of mine production planning and MRMR updates. As a member of the corporate technical team, the role will contribute to engineering evaluations for possible project acquisitions, expansions and/or joint ventures.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Develop mine designs and schedules for both projects and operations.
- Provide technical advice and support to major projects in various stages of development.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of a corporate Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves estimation and reporting governance process.
- Provide specialized technical expertise to support the assumptions in mining reserve updates, project studies and Budget-level detailed mine plans.
- Provide technical support to operations to optimize mine operations, as well as opinions/guidance on project studies and potential acquisitions.
- Identify and support execution of site-based continuous improvement projects.
- Work with teams to provide engineering and economic guidance to the Business Development and Exploration groups.
- Assist with M&A due diligence reviews.
- Assist with the development of long-term planning strategies for operations and development projects.
- Update and maintain cost benchmarks and financial models.
- Recommend and ensure that company's engineering policies and best practice procedures are being implemented and followed.
The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:
Skills and Competencies
- High level of proficiency with mine planning software systems (NPV Scheduler, Minemax, Deswik, etc.) required. Exhibit an interest /aptitude for further learning of such systems.
- Open pit operations, mining procedures and technical design experience required; underground design and operations experience is considered an asset.
- Strong communications skills: able to synthesize mine planning, engineering and project information into site and Executive-level PowerPoint presentations.
- Team player with a strong inclination towards developing cooperative solutions and relationships with various stakeholders.
- Experience managing cross-functional project plans and executing them on schedule.
- Advanced level skills in Excel with sensitivity analyses on key inputs and assumptions.
Experience, Qualifications & Education
- A university degree in mine engineering and a minimum of 4 to 8 years of relevant practical experience in open pit and/or underground mining is required, including operations experience.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in direct projects/operations environment.
- Currently registered or qualified to register as a professional engineer (P.Eng.) or equivalent as defined under National Instrument 43-101.
- Exposure to studies, financial modeling, and mine operational budgeting would be considered an asset.
