YMCA Day Camps is home to three gorgeous waterfronts: YMCA Camp Conestogo on Guelph Lake, Shade’s Mills Conservation Area in Cambridge, and Wildwood conservation Area in St. Marys.
What you will do…
You will be a leader in a vibrant outdoor day camp setting, supporting the growth and development of children and youth by overseeing the safety and supervision of the recreational swimming and boating (canoe and/or kayak) programs. Your work will ensure that we reinforce National Lifesaving Society, Ontario Camping Association Standards, and YMCA Camping Quality Recommended Practices to support quality excellence. You thrive being a part of a larger team but also bring the self-management skills required to work independently with minimal supervision. Furthermore, in this role you will:

Work with the Camp Director to ensure the waterfront is functioning safely and effectively to all standards.

Creatively interpret engaging canoe and/or kayak lesson plans.

Provide leadership and coaching to Camp Counselors by demonstrating effective in/on water engagement methods.

Complete daily safety checks of lifesaving equipment and communicate any issues to the Day Camp Director.

Champion the adherence to all safety and lifeguarding procedures and responds to all emergencies.

Act as a positive role model for campers and fellow staff by championing YMCA values.
What you will bring…
Ideally, you will bring a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience lifeguarding. You are committed to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to diverse needs. You have well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; the ability to use good judgement and problem-solve; and strong professional conduct. You have up-to-date National Lifeguard and Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification and successful completion of Police Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 6 months.
